It's clearly Carlyle's fault.

Nobody expects medal for the Czechs so taking Canada to an overtime and take the game in a shootout is pretty impressive. They made me happy.

Kinda disappointed Gauthier isn't getting much ice time for Canada so far in this tournament.

I think he's going to have an NHL future, but defensive players with limited offensive ability tend not to get a lot of ice-time at these tournaments.  It was a big stretch to draft him in the 1st round IMO.  I think its going to be a pick that the Leafs regret down the road.

Optimistically I could see Gauthier being something like Martin Hanzal with less offense. That's not a bad thing at all.

The pick that really has made the Leafs look bad was Tyler Biggs. Traded up to get him and everything.

I'm happy for you guys that they won. Beating the Canadians is something to be proud about.

Better to lose now than in the medal round.

Not a very good game today in the shootoot loss to the Czech Republic 5-4.
Not for benched Connor McDavid with his two short-handed penalties.
Not one for Canada's 'keeper Jake Patterson, allowing a few questionable goals.  Coach Brent Sutter plans on giving Zach Fucale the start in Canada's next game against Slovakia Monday.

Overall, the Canadians found themselves coming from behind several times.  As for the Czechs, they did what they had to do
to beat hockey powerhouse Canada.

Seriously, I tuned in to the World Juniors as a break from the Leafs, and what do I get?  Heel-dragging 1st period, too-little-too-late effort in the 2nd and 3rd, and a shoot-out loss.  Oh well.

Canada needs to just play it's game...

The trap is the natural choice for a team playing with lesser talent, and the Czechs did an excellent job keeping the Canadians to the outside and shielding the middle and slot. These are the consequences that come from playing with a deficit, and until Canada starts scoring first, the execution of their game-plan is in question, particularly once they begin meeting teams like Sweden, USA and Russia.

Canada adapted to the Czechs’ defensive bubble with multiple quick passes through the defensive diamond
formation and finding the open man in the middle.

The Canadians used quick passes to catch the Czechs out of
position, and it worked well enough for Canada to get some
open looks from the slot...

The Canadian defence activated off the rush and was able to get some open looks in the slot from passes behind the net. It
was understandable why this approach was kept considering
the offence it generated, but the results weren’t there. When
Canada forces the issue by driving the net, as Laughton did on the third goal, the results generally come.

wow, TSN, would it be too much trouble to actually list the game start time (as in puck drop!) instead of your stupid pre game air time thing? I just had to argue with the spouse to change the channel to watch the 11 am game start…….and it's 1130 and the game hasn't actually started yet. Thanks for that…...

This tournament has become TSN's marquee event. They tend to milk it almost as much as the trade deadline day.

Not really liking Canada's chances of winning gold this year. They haven't looked great so far, and their goaltending has been pretty ordinary. If they don't get things going today, they might not even make the medal round.
