We have just been ranked 29th out of the 30 teams for our propspects by The Hockey News.
How is this possible, I thought we had been developing some good players?

Someone has to go 29th. It doesn't always mean that there's a great deal of separation between the team at 24th and the one at 29th.

Who were you thinking of specifically when you mentioned the good players being developed?

In general Burke sucked at drafting.  Burke + Nonis have had 5 turns at the draft table so far.  In those 5 years the Leafs have Kadri and Rielly playing in the NHL on a regular basis.  That's it.

Guys like D'Amigo and Leivo have a hand-ful of games that nothing more.

Burke drafted the Leafs out of having prospects.  He was obsessed with drafting low talent but big bodied guys and it backfired pretty much every single time.

Good post.

Picks like Biggs and Devane still have me shaking my head.

Lets hope that Finn, Percy, Granberg, Leivo, D'Amigo, Andres Johnson, Gauthier, Herzog and Conner Brown make it to the Leafs sometime in the future.
And lets hope we find at least one or two good potentials this summer

There's really nobody in our system with top line potential. And only a handful (McKegg, Leivo, Johnson, Brown, Stuart, Finn) with 2nd line/pairing upside. And while the forwards I mentioned are having promising seasons, you could make the argument that they're still long shots at becoming legitimate 2nd line players.

I honestly keep forgetting that Devane was picked in the 3rd round.

then thanks god that we have JVR, Bozak and Kessel tied up for the next 5 years. That may give some of these lads a chance to develop. As far as I am concerned I think Granberg,  Percy and Finn will definetly be an upgrade on our defense sooner.

Devane can be the new Molten Orr with perhaps a pinch more scoring on the upside.  Oh and nots let forget the Brolldozer and that we did draft Komrade Komarov (god I hope we sign him again)

Komarov is from the 2006 JFJ draft.  That was a fantastic draft year.  Tlusty, Kulemin, Reimer, Stalberg, Komarov.

I hate playing this game, but he was picked one spot ahead of Reilly Smith who is on pace for 20+ goals and 55+ points this season. Toronto boy too.

Shucks.

What makes it better is he was drafted in the 3rd round based on 5G 12A

Don't forget INTANGIBLES!

Even three years after his draft year he wasn't a PPG player in the OHL.

Very few players outside the top 10 have played well to be honest with you. Reilly Smith is definitely an anomaly.
