It is nice to be reminded of his shining AHL numbers again.  They may not mean too much when it comes to NHL play but we Leaf fans gotta take what we can get.

At first I wanted to say he got one for sure, but then I wondered why this took so long. Maybe two-way first year, one-way second?

This article gave me an idea:

Scrivens might have signed for some reason having to do with the lockout and playing in the AHL.  If he didn't sign now there may be some contractual trickiness with him playing in the AHL.

Can you do that though? I'm not sure you can.  I think it's all or nothing on the one way vs two way approach.

Maybe it took a while as they worked on getting him a really high AHL salary on a two-way, so if he is demoted, he earns some serious coin. He's clearly proven he can dominate at that level... might as well get paid for it.

Yup. It happens quite frequently with players in Scriven's position, especially goalies.

Fair enough.

I feel like he could easily point to the Holzer one-way and say "hey I proved as much or more than he did, so gimme one 'o' those one-way deals too".

According to @KyleTheReporter, his contract is in fact a two-way deal in year one and one-way in year two.

I have no problems with this, but is it bad that my initial thought was, "Yup, we are going to enter this season with no upgrade in goal."  :-X

Good news! This locks up an asset that has potential.

According to that new rule princedpw posted about, a two-way contract allows Scrivens to be waived to the AHL before the CBA expires and allows him to return to the Leafs for training camp without having to go through re-entry waivers. That also likely explains why this took so long as Burke was probably waiting for the NHL to finalize that rule.

That's not an issue for Holzer as he's still waiver exempt.

I like the structure and the room that allows the Leafs, good deal for us. I'm sure the money is reasonable.

I wonder what happens next year if Scrivens and Reimer falter this season and a new number one goalie is brought in. I guess a trade is the only option in that scenario?

Yes you are right about no upgrade as far as a new goalie...but,I like to think of both Reims and Scrivens as maturing player upgrades.Hopefully one of these guys can be a solid no.1.
