Can you applaud or smite someone more than once?

I just tried applauding you again, and it says I have to wait an hour.

Okay, looks like you can applaud people multiple times but you can't do it to the same person within the same hour. - How Roman.

I see this as a way to thank someone for a really good post, or giving someone a high-five. Give him/her an applause. I can see fans of other teams getting some positives...

If someone is just thread hijacking and being a jerk, smite him/her.  I can see some Leafs fans really taking a beating.

I have been thinking about this.

One of the things (maybe THE thing) that makes this board better than any others is that it is possible to have discussion at a higher level here. This is much more than a simple "Go Leafs Go" homer board. And yet, for every intelligent poster who carefully thinks through his/her thoughts and has an opinion that really makes you pause and think about it we will still always have a lot more posters of the variety that call into Andy Frost and scream for a new coach and/or GM every few games.

As nature would have it, those masses of people will always outnumber the more intelligent and thoughtful posters. But now everyone can smite someone that they disagree with and, I believe, discourage anyone from having an opinion that is not mainstream.

Perhaps I am wrong and perhaps there are actually far more of the intelligent and thoughful posters here than of the other variety and perhaps this will all work out just fine. I would just hate to see any good posters go away or be discouraged from posting because of this.

Just an opinion......

hey Fanatic,

I see your point, but IMO I think it will help to keep the discussion civil even if there is lots of disagreement vs. just becoming the biggest Leafs cheerleaders get the highest karma scores.

I don't believe that opinions that don't toe the party line (cheer leading) will automatically mean more "smites"... I think it's all in the delivery, and letting everyone's opinion be heard and respected that earns you positive feedback.  As Rick said, highjacking threads or being a jerk will bring the smites.

It's more of a behavior barometer than a popular opinion one.
