They say there will be more pain (like learning to close out games) but I think the majority of the root canal work is done.

Agreed man of the Highlands, really only one pain/tank year of unwatchable hockey. They've got players again now and it's fun to watch, even if their goal differential ends up being zero.

With extra picks for 3 years starting last draft, they can fill out the rest of the roster after getting those high skill forwards in Auston, Mitch and Willie.

Future is bright indeed.

You can see the skill/game-breaker players now, Auston, Willie and Mitch inserted this year above our most skilled last year (Naz, JVR). This being about year 2.5 of a SCORCHED EARTH rebuild, man the future is bright. Had extra picks last year, have extra this year and more again next year I believe. If we can hit a stud defenceman and a franchise goalie with one of them, we'll eventually become something like the Hawks hopefully, contending for a long string of years. The core will be homegrown and ours for a decade.

5-3 and that powerplay they were getting close! Made a game of it, I came alive with the crowd  :) It's fun to have players again, really only one tank/pain year of unwatchable hockey.

Difference tonight has been goaltending. Both teams have been quick with chances. Tampa's a great team and we're keeping up. But Bishop has just been tighter in close and on shots from the point.

Great pace!

Bishop has been excellent.

How long is Babcock going to keep giving Komarov top-line minutes?

How long are we going to pretend Babcock has a top line?

Yeah, Bozie/Marner/JVR, Auston/Willie/Zach, Naz/Leo/Brownie are all at like 13 minutes. Everyone being asked to be responsible defensively, Brown strengthens Babs' use of Naz's line going against opponents top line because someone has to do it  :)

"Did somebody say free brownies?"

Blue Jays care about their press people enough to limit their unlimited consumption of cheapo high-fructose corn syrup fatty.

After watching for five games it seems to be that Anderson is a blocker, a bit of a rebound machine. Gets exposed easily if D aren't clearing the front of the net or forwards missing their assignments. To get a top ten league goaltender well, we're probably going to have to get lucky in the draft. Good news is Leafs have the time, it'll just be a bit deflating for both the players and fans if Freddie's SV% is still sub .900 at Christmas.

This year is soooo much more different than the last. I find myself looking forward to games, rather than just a mild interest in the tank. Marner the waterbug, Nylander's passing and shot, Auston's big body making plays. True, the goaltending and defensive lapses so far have been disappointing, but we are watchable again definitely. 3 straight years of top-5 picks in the lineup will do that for you.  :)

Are you ready for this?

Poor Enroth and Andersen.

Marner could very well get us an extra 5 pts this year in shootout wins  :)

Shanny strikes again! Alums were asked to show up to witness the raising of their new-looking banners but never told their number would actually be retired until one hour from game-time. Really allowed for a lot of genuine emotion.

A one-hundred year-old franchise had only 2 retired numbers before Saturday. Well overdue and yet another example of the new regime getting it right. Reminds me of when Cliff Fletcher arrived in '91 and immediately started rolling out the welcome mat to former Leaf greats, starting the process of eradicating decades of foulness and Ballard decay.

Really, really well done. We're simply not used to having nice things!
All the numbers that were up in the rafters are now officially retired.

Low-key celebrations after the goals. Blames himself in the post-game interview for Sens' OT winner. Auston Matthews ladies and gentlemen: 19 going on 42.
