Can he skate backwards even a little bit and does he shoot right?

The fans vitriol should be directed at ownership and management, not Tavares.  The organisation has been clown shoes going back to the Mike Milbury days.

But, like I just said, Marner strikes me as the guy who's maybe most likely to sign for slightly below his best comps. If we figure the range on his deal is somewhere between 7 million(Pastrnak's % roughly) and 9 million(Kane) long term, all I'm saying is that it wouldn't shock me if he came down on the less expensive side of that divide. It wouldn't shock me if he didn't, but you know...just my guess.

It's an interesting situation, because the first guy that signs pretty much defines the expectation for the other two, or at least, the spread.. so perhaps that's the dubas strategy for now.. instead of forcing the issue, wait for one guy to want it over with to focus on the upcoming season, and then the other two deals close quickly.

Except, Nylander needs a contract before the season starts, Mitch and Auston could wait it out another year.

Bowman loves boomerangs.

Is that ex-Marlies captain Andrew 'Soupy' Campbell I spy in that list?

I'm always delighted with the creativity of hockey nicknames...so clever.

Pretty sure every Campbell that ever played on a hockey team was nicknamed Soup.

I'd personally try to get everyone to call him Warhol.

Rielz, Bozzy, Soupy, all so good.

You forgot Hainsey.

I hope Tavares at least stopped on his way off the ice and gave that kid an autograph.

https://canucksarmy.com/2017/12/15/h-is-for-hockey-related-revenues/

This is great article regarding team finances. Since teams are privately held the financials are not readily available. Thankfully Forbes was able to do an estimation that calculated a total revenue close to the number Bettman stated therefore the Forbes data provides some reliable insight.

Read the article. It's clear the Leafs contribution is substantial according to the cumulative operating income chart.

As indicated in the article small market teams can't afford the floor. The profitable teams vs the non-profitable gap is to big to maintain current CBA conditions. I think the goal of parity and profitability (for everyone) will have to include either the players taking less percentage of hockey related revenues or the introduction of a soft cap/luxury tax system.

A hard cap system is complete BS anyway, as it ignores the fact that no matter what, you will have teams that are going to perform better or worse financially.

Sharing the revenue 50/50 is ok.  The big thing missing is the ability to buy, sell or trade cap space.  There was about $110 million in unused cap space at the end of last season.  If you gave the richer teams the ability to acquire that cap space for cash or picks or players, it would do a lot to help out the smaller market teams.

It would be great if AM34 signed up for 8x11.

Any team is essentially trading for Erik Karlsson for one year at $6.5M, and an 8 year deal instead of 7.  At Karlsson's age, 7 years is enough.  Karlsson still has control of where he wants to go, and for how much, the same as he will next July 1.

So what is a team really trading for?  A one year rental really.

What I love is, Dubas systematically dismantling and taking away all of Babcock's favourite toys.

I like to imagine Larry Tanenbaum moseying down to the local MoneyMart asking for a cash advance.

Like I said, I'm not saying that MLSE can't afford to spend to the cap.

I think the last year before the salary cap came in, the Leafs spent almost $70 million on player salaries.  I think they could spend double that today and still be flush with cash.

MLSE are also getting $40 million a year for naming rights to the arena.  I think they are ok for cash.

Those examples were mostly past their prime by the time they were on the Leafs together.

Oh come on. You have to admit those were some pretty good pulls off the top of my head.

Oh yes I will give you that.  I didn't think of those at all, but Lindros in particular was a shadow of his former self.
