I suppose when you consider it to be part of the Andersen trade (I think the Leafs said as much), it's easier to comprehend. Still, I'm wondering if the picks were worth it. .  Guses it'll be a few years before we know.

Man, Bernier really must have been a despised man.

I don't know. Maybe, "well they haven't done anything stupid" is a good thing... That's where I'm at.

Fair enough. Honestly,  I really don't care who the backyp is. Just hoping for a serviceable body.

It just feels to me that whatever "problems" the Leafs had with the cap going into this offseason seemed like ones with relatively simple solutions. Maybe it's a product of the good work this group has done in regards to the cap but it's been nothing more than a thing to just look at as opposed to worry about.

Well sure, for us fans who don't actually have the plan of attack in front of us, it sure is worth following and it's all part of the fun of fandom. I'm sure though  it's only a "problem" for us because the Leafs solution just hasn't presented itself yet.

One too many "sometimes " there... Won't let me edit... Sorry for the poor grammar.

Pretty sure the Leafs don't actually have a cap problem at all in that they know exactly where they are, where they need to be, and how to get there.

They don't have a problem in terms of having to face penalties for being over the cap to start the season, since they'll have a lot of LTIR space available. They're still in position for potential overage complications. Depending on how their arbitration cases work out, they'll need to make another salary clearing move to avoid that, even if the Cowen situation works out in their favour - unless they plan on keeping Nylander, Marner, Matthews, and Zaitsev off the roster most of the season (which seems unlikely).

Just saying I'm sure they know that and it'll all unfold before us in the coming weeks. Sometimes I feel Leaf fans are guilty sometimes of manufacturing problems that don't actually exist.

Going into free agency, the Leafs had 0 (zero) franchise crippling contracts. That number hasn't changed at all and guess what?  -They just didn't pay for intangibles (which they got in spades). .. He can play a little.

Also, it tells the league it's not open season on the kids.

This is like signing Clarkson only if Clarkson was 6'3 and signed for what he was worth.

Good way to look at it.
