Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: 2015 NHL Entry Draft
« on: March 17, 2015, 12:34:51 PM »
Edmonton's got three picks in the top 35, so I'd focus on getting on of their other picks. Not sure what we could offer of interest without overpaying.

Lupul's from Edmonton. Things obviously didn't work out the first time they traded for him but he's a more mature player now. Although I'm not sure he'd waive to go there, even with his roots. He might be enough to get their 2nd rounder if he would.

Might be a tough sell for both Edm and Lupul, but I'd go for that. The 2nd rounder will be around 31 or-32 overall. I actually see little benefit for Edmonton.

They'd be more interested in something like Gardiner, which is why I suggested it'd probably have to be an over-payment.

Might be able to get the Penguins pick from Edm in a Gardiner trade.

It seems that Potvin and I are the only two whom defend Phil. This season is an aberration,  let let him hit the reset button with a new coach and hopefully a decent Centre.
When you say "Rebuild", you do need some players to rebuild around.

His lack of work ethic on and off the ice make him the first guy who should be fired out of a cannon off this team. Last thing you want is young guys seeing him as an example.  He can go get his 1st line centre on another team..a team with an established core that won't accept his lack of effort.

Bottom line for Phil is if he mails in another off season with the Leafs or any other team it's not going to go well for him next year either.  I think he's reached an age where his lack of conditioning has caught up with him. He can't get away with it anymore. The older he gets the worse it's going to get unless he commits to being in better shape.

Hello peoples. Long time no see.

I confess I joined tank nation a while ago.  It has to happen now. As much as i despise losing, I can't cheer for this group of sad sacks anymore anyway, so just sitting back and watching them mail it in every night feels okay since the end result will be good for the long term.

As for next year I don't even care who plays what role. Outside of McDavid, whoever they draft should not be prematurely brought up only to get killed every night on a rebuilding team.  Blowing out the current core is an absolute must. All of them.

Candidates:

Internally - Sprott/Horachek/Dineen/Other
Externally - Paul MacLean/Torts/Bylsma/R. Wilson/B. Sutter/Crawford/Eakins/Keenan/Boucher/Other

The Leafs have dipped into the junior ranks a bit lately too. Dale Hunter and Sheldon Keefe both have obvious ties to the Leafs front office. But both of them probably wouldn't move during the season.

Anyone would be better then what we have. Babcock is not coming here. He is going to sign in DET IMO

if he is then why hasn't he already?

Spezza to Dallas for "Alex Chiasson, Nicholas Paul, the 101st player chosen in the 2013 entry draft, and Alex Guptill, who went 77th overall in 2010.

And we are supposed to give up more than a Gardiner/Bozak package to get Staal?

C'mon.

Some more on the partnership.

Listen, I get why the Leafs are throwing money at analytics. I mean, why not right? But, when most of the teams in the league start to develop their own analytical systems, doesn't that kill any sort of advantage individual teams might have by deploying it?

Yeah, but you don't want to be the team that doesn't have any of it and fall behind. Might as well try and jump to the front of the pack.  Engaging SAS is a very bold move.  Basically it gives Dubas an engine to take all the data and process it in a million different ways and spit out reports that can really help the coaches and the GM.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Leafs claim Panik from TBay
« on: October 09, 2014, 03:58:42 PM »
I think the hype of his college story and then a gold stretch post lockout confused a lot of people on Frattin, I hope he can find the next gear, but as some have said he might not have another.

He lost his top six job to Kozun and has probably lost his top 12 job to Panik.  Unless there's an injury I'd say he has run out of time.  He will be a 13th forward for the time being.

edit: and if Booth ever returns healthy, Frattin could be next on waivers.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Opening Forward Lines

Potential Leafs lineup taking shape at practice: JVR-Bozak-Kessel. Lupul-Kadri-Leivo. Komarov-Holland-Nylander. Winnik-Santorelli-Kozun.

Jonas Siegel‏@jonasTSN10507 mins7 minutes ago

Matt Frattin notably not amongst first four forward lines. Clarkson participating in practice but given injury seems unlikely for Friday.

Discuss...

That 2nd line could be horrifying defensively.

Remember guys, you have to give to get.

Give to get.

Give.

From what I have seen so far, Kontiola shouldn't be anywhere near the NHL roster come opening night.

Yeah, I crossed him off my list.

Who would be in the press box instead?  Bodie?  Bodie seemed to have some hustle last year as well as size.

Yep, I think Bodie is making a case to replace both Orr and McLaren for toughness, and can skate and check more effectively on the fourth line than either of those two.

Agree.  Flip him and Frattin in and out of the lineup, depending on the opponent and whether you want some size/oomph vs. speed on the 4th line.

You make that trade and all we'll hear all summer and training camp is how out of shape Buff is.  It never ends.

Yeah I can hear the jokes now about Kessel vs. Buff in a sumo match to see who is bigger.
