TOR
•Andersen (29-15-4, 2.66 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•The Leafs are 9-1 in their last 10 games
•Despite missing practice on Friday, Babcock said that he's expecting Gardiner to be available today. The Leafs did not call up a defencemen just in case

PIT
•Murray (21-12-2, 2.85 GAA, .908 Sv%) will likely start for the Penguins
•Pittsburgh is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games
•Malkin, Crosby, and Kessel are all tied for 4th in the league in points with 66
•Since January 1st Crosby leads the league with 31 points in 19 games. Malkin is 2nd with 30 and Kessel isn't too far behind with 24
•The Penguins have the best powerplay in the league, which really carried them through the first half of the season when they struggled at 5-on-5. Kessel-Crosby-Malkin are 1-2-3 in the league in powerplay points
•I would assume that there are other players on this team as well

•Columbus had 51 shots in the game, making it the 2nd straight game they've reached the 50 shot mark
•The Blue Jackets are currently just 1 point behind Carolina for the final playoff seed in the East

Game Notes

TB
•Vasilevskiy (33-10-2, 2.29 GAA, .929 Sv%) will likely start for the Lightning
•Tampa had a stretch of games in January where they went only 5-5-1 and their lead on the Atlanic division was slipping away to Boston. Unfortunately, it's February now and they're 4-1 this month and they've averaged 5 goals for in those 4 wins
•Nikita Kucherov also had a rough personal stretch going where he went 11 straight games without scoring a goal. But he's scored in each of his last 2 games so he's back now too

TOR
•Andersen (27-15-4, 2.65 GAA, .921 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Patrick Marleau had a breakout game against Ottawa, finally joining his two new linemates on the score sheet. In the 8 games since Marner joined him and Kadri that trio has a combined 24 points.

Game Notes

ott
•Anderson (15-17-5, 3.14 GAA, .904 Sv%) will likely start for the sens
•Ottawa will be welcoming Brassard and Stone back to their line-up. Brassard missed the past 2 games with an injury, while Stone's been out for the past 9. Stone had 10 points in 6 games prior to his injury
•The sens sit 3rd last in the entire league, but they are 4-1 in their past 5 games. Most recently they beat the Preds in OT the night after the Leafs beat them
•After a rough start Matt Duchene seems to be picking things up. He has 15 points in his last 15 games. Hoffman is right behind him with 13 points in that span

TOR
•Andersen (26-15-4, 2.64 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Carrick skated with Dermott at practice on Friday, so based off that it seems like Polak will be taking a turn in the press box again
•Some nice looking numbers from the Leafs: Gardiner has 13 points in his past 10 games, Matthews had 10 in his past 9, Nylander has 9 in his past 8, Kadri has 9 in his past 9, and Hyman has 8 in his past 10
•Some not-so-nice numbers though: Zaitsev has 0 points in his past 13 games, Marleau has 2 points in his last 16 games, and Bozak has just 1 goal in his past 21 games

Injuries

NSH
•Rinne (27-8-3, 2.32 GAA, .926 Sv%) will likely start for the Predators
•Nashville is 2nd in their division in points, just 2 behind Winnipeg despite playing 3 less games. They're 9-1-1 in their last 11 games. They've scored 5 goals in each of their past 3 games
•One bright spot: their highest scoring forward, Filip Forsberg, is in the middle of a 3-game suspension for interference
•Some not bright spots (for us): Subban has 23 points in his last 22 games, Kevin Fiala has 9 points in his last 9 games, Arvidsson has 9 points in his last 8 games, and Johansen has 7 points in his last 6 games

TOR
•Andersen (25-15-4, 2.66 GAA, .921 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Andersen of course left Monday's game in the 2nd period after taking a skate to the head. He said he had some whiplash symptoms and a sore jaw, but feels like he'll be able to play
•No line-up changes were made at practice yesterday

ANA
•Ryan Miller (12-6-3, 2.40 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Ducks
•John Gibson's been out for about a week with a groin injury, his status at this point is day-to-day
•For the first time this season Ryan Getzlaf is in a bit of a rut. Injuries kept him out for about a month and a half but he had 31 points in his first 25 games this season. He's pointless in his last 4 games though
•Corey Perry is on pace to have his worst offensive season since his sophomore year: he has just 26 points in 42 games. And a stretch of 3 points in 11 games actually saw him start their last game against Montreal on the 4th line. He scored against the Habs though so that might get him back in the top-6 for this one
•I feel like I'm saying this about a lot of Leafs opponents lately, but the Ducks are in a dogfight for the final wildcard spot in their conference. They are 1 of 4 teams within a single point of each other battling for 8th in the West

TOR
•Andersen (25-15-4, 2.62 GAA, .921 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Was a loss just what Babcock was waiting for to get back to a "safer", more "gud pro"-y line-up? We'll have to wait and see. Polak is still technically on the IR though and for him to be activated another roster move would be necessary

Injuries

•John Gibson - Groin - Questionable Monday

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (25-14-4, 2.61 GAA, .922 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
•Babcock said on Thursday that he expected both Hainsey and Polak to be recovered from their illnesses by Saturday. He also said he was hopefuly Rielly would be available too. Roster moves would be necessary if that's the case
•Safe to probably assume the forward lines will continue to stay the same, but the defence is obviously a big question mark until we know who is actually healthy

BOS
•Rask (20-8-4, 2.12 GAA, .924 Sv%) will start for the Bruins
•The Bruins will be without the services of Brad Marchand, who is in the middle of a 5-game suspension for elbowing. Marchand has 50 points in 38 games this season and actually has the highest PPG rate in the league (1.32)
•Boston might however be welcoming back defenceman Charlie McAvoy. McAvoy has missed the past 4 games after undergoing an ablation heart procedure. But he's been fully cleared medically and might be ready to return to the line-up
•The Bruins have won 6 of their past 7 games and are now 3 points ahead of the Leafs for 2nd in the Atlantic division, and they also have four games in hand

Game Notes

TOR
•McElhinney (4-4-0, 2.55 GAA, .925 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Hainsey and Polak didn't fly out to New York with the team last night, but if their illnesses improve overnight they might re-join the team today
•If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Will this be the 4th straight game Matt Martin sits in the pressbox for?

NYR
•Lundqvist (21-13-4, 2.61 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Rangers
•The Rangers are 1 point behind Philly for the final wild card spot in the East and need to seperate themselves from the Islanders and Hurricanes who are right behind them
•New York was 5-7 in the month of January, which won't be good enough to get into the playoffs
•Cody McLeod, one of the last few goon-type forwards in the league, will be making his Rangers debut after being claimed off waivers from Nashville. He'll likely be trying to make his physical presence felt tonight
•I don't know why Peter Holland is their 3C either

Former Leafs: Ex-Files / The Mystery of Paul Ranger
« on: January 31, 2018, 09:02:45 AM »
Ten years ago, Paul Ranger was a legitimate top-4 defencemen with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Then, when he was 25 years old, he left the team at the beginning of the 2009-10 season for personal reasons and nobody knew why. In 2012 he signed a minor-league deal with the Marlies and had a successful return to professional hockey despite taking 3 seasons off. He played 53 games with the Leafs the season after that in his return to the NHL. After one more season in hockey in Switzerland he finally ended his hockey playing career.

Still, he never spoke about his reasons for leaving the hockey world in 2009. Last week it was revealed that he was battling with depression during that time. And with today being Bell Let's Talk day TSN released this piece where Darren Dreger sits down with Paul to discuss what he went through:

NYI
•Thomas Greiss (10-6-2, 3.89 GAA, .886 Sv%) will likely start for the Islanders
•The Islanders played last night against Florida, losing 4-1 and being outshot 40-33
•New York is getting MVP-like seasons out of almost their entire top line. Tavares is 5th in the league in points with 57 in 51 games. Josh Bailey is actually scoring at an even higher rate with 55 points in 47 games, he recently returned from a lower-body injury. And Anders Lee is tied for 2nd in the league in goals with 27 in 51 games
•Their second line, AKA the line that Chiarelli built, is doing very well too. Mathew Barzal has 51 points in 51 games, while Jordan Eberle is on pace to score 62 points
•Scoring goals clearly isn't a problem for New York, but keeping them out is. They're dead last in GA/GP and have the 2nd worst PK% in the league. Because of that they are in a dog-fight for the final wild card spot in the East. Just 2 points separates the Flyers, Rangers, Islanders, and Hurricanes. Philly currently occupies that final spot

TOR
•Andersen (24-14-4, 2.68 GAA, .920 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Nikita Zaitsev looks like he's ready to return to the line-up. He missed the past 17 games with a broken foot. Polak is expected to be a healthy scratch with his return
•Based on the lines at practice yesterday, it seems like the road units from last week are still intact. That means Marner with Kadri, Komarov on the 4th line, and Martin in the press box. Huzzah!

TOR
•McElhinney (3-4-0, 2.78 GAA, .916 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
•In an effort to save valuable time and resources, the NHL has announced this morning that the first goal Toronto scores tonight will be called back for goalie interference

DAL
•Ben Bishop (21-12-3, 2.42 GAA, .918 Sv%) will start for the Stars
•John Klingberg leads all defencemen in scoring with 48 points in 49 games. He actually has more assists than any other defenceman has points. This offensive dominance has earned him some talk about the Norris trophy
•The Stars top line has been very good this season, but all trail Klingberg in points. In 49 games Benn, Radulov, and Seguin have 47, 47, and 42 points respectively
•Speaking of Radulov, his 47 points this season is more than any Montreal player has. In fact, it's more than any Montreal player + Shea Weber has combined

TOR
•Andersen (23-14-4, 2.69 GAA, .920 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Marner has taken Komarov's place on the 2nd line as Babcock looks for a more balanced attack
•The 4th line has a completely new look too with Komarov taking Martin's spot, Moore bumping Gauthier out, and Kapanen coming up from the Marlies

CHI
•Jeff Glass (3-3-1, 3.17 GAA, .909 Sv%) will likely start for the Blackhawks
•Chicago finds themselves in unfamiliar territory this season: they're 7 points out of a playoff spot and it looks like they'll miss the post-season for the first time since 2007-08
•Patrick Kane is still Patrick Kane though: the all-star has 48 points in 47 games this season
•Jonathan Toews has just 31 points in 47 games this season, an 82-game pace of 54 points. He had a nearly identical points pace last season after 43 games when he had just 28 points, but the second half of the season saw him score 30 in 29 games. Will a similar outburst happen this year?

COL
•Jonathan Bernier (13-7-1, 2.61 GAA, .919 Sv%) will likely start for the Avalanche
•Bernier has been on an absolute tear since taking over the net from the injured Varlamov. He's started and won 8 straight games and has a 1.46 GAA and .958 Sv% since Varlamov went down
•Since Matt Duchene was traded away, Nathan MacKinnon leads all NHLers in points with 45 in 31 games. The next highest scorer since that time is Tavares with 39 points in 34 games. MacKinnon's now 2nd in the league in points, just 2 back of Kucherov
•Largely because of the play of MacKinnon and Bernier, the Avs find themselves in the final wild card spot in the West right now. Looks like they "wanted to play playoff hockey" as well
•Samuel Girard.

TOR
•Andersen (23-13-4, 2.68 GAA, .920 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Still waiting word on Rielly's status for the game but his injury is not believed to be severe so he shouldn't be out long
•A big game from Marner and a 41-ish% CF night for the JVR-Bozak-Brown line on Saturday might be enough to get Mitch back into the top-9, again we have to wait and see
