Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (3-1-0, 3.28 GAA, .893 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•The Leafs did not practice on Friday, so no word on any potential line changes. I'd expect the same as in Detroit but there's also the chance Babs swaps the 6D again
•The Leafs, as you may have already heard, will go into Saturday's action with the top-4 point scorers in the entire league

WSH
•Holtby (2-0-1, 2.98 GAA, .907 Sv%) will likely start for the Caps
•Kuznetsov has been leading the way early for the Caps offensively. He has 7 points in 4 games which has already caused some DC writers to put him in discussion for the Hart trophy. He'd be 5th on the Leafs in scoring
•Washington is of course without Tom Wilson for the time being, as he's currently serving his 20-game suspension for being Tom Wilson

Injuries

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (2-1-0, 3.37 GAA, .892 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Expect the same lines from Toronto as we saw in Dallas, meaning Gauthier and Oz will remain in the place of Johnsson and Marincin

DET
•Jonathan Bernier, who apparently signed a 3-year deal with the Wings this summer, could get the start against his former team
•The Wings have been hit with quite a few injuries to start the season, especially at D. Veterans Green, Ericsson, and Daley are all out, as is rookie Cholowski. Kronwall will likely play his first game of the season after missing the first 3 with an injury

Injuries

•Dennis Cholowski - Upper Body - Day to day
•Trevor Daley - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
•Brian Lashoff - Knee - Out indefinitely

•Jonathan Ericsson - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
•Mike Green - Virus - Injured Reserve

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (1-1-0, 3.06 GAA, .898 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Babs made one line-up change in the Chicago game that will likely carry over here: swapping Kapanen and Ennis
•The Leafs are still looking for their first regulation win of the season

DAL
•Bishop (2-0-0, 0.50 GAA, .984 Sv%) will likely start for the Stars
•The Stars have started their season off well, winning both their games by a combined score of 8-1
•Former Leaf Connor Carrick is off to a good start with his new team, recording 3 assists in 2 games so far
•One player to keep an eye on could be rookie defenceman Miro Heiskanen. He was the 3rd overall pick in 2017 and likely the reason Erik Karlsson isn't a Dallas Star right now

Injuries

Game Notes

TOR
•Sparks will make his season debut and first start as the Leafs regular back-up
•Babcock wouldn't reveal any line-up changes he has in mind after the Ottawa loss, but I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of the scratched defencemen come in

CHI
•Forsberg will make his season debut for the Blackhawks
•Chicago is coming off a 5-4 win over the Blues on Saturday
•Toews and Kane are both off to good starts offensively, scoring 5 and 4 points respectively in 2 games

Marlies & Prospect Talk / Sam Gagner to play for the Marlies
« on: October 02, 2018, 07:02:17 PM »

Gagner recently passed through waivers, and reports were that the Canucks were trying to find an AHL team closer to home he could play for. Seems like the Marlies volunteered.

It's a pretty surprising turn of events for Gagner. He put up 50 points with the Blue Jackets in 16/17 playing a very sheltered and PP-heavy role... then signed a 3-year, $3.15mil AAV contract with the Canucks. He put up 31 points with the Canucks last season.

Aside from Adam Brooks, the Marlies don't really have any centre prospects so this won't be taking time away from our young guys. If he comes even slightly motivated Gagner should be one of the AHL's top players.

The Canucks can also recall him at any point they want as well.

Game Notes

MTL
•Price will start for the Canadiens
•Jesperi Kotkaniemi, the somewhat surprising 3rd overall draft pick in 2018, will make his NHL debut
•Max Domi, Montreal's big offseason acquisition, was bumped out of the 2C spot by Kotkaniemi during his 5 game suspension in the pre-season
•Some big questions heading into the start of the season: How bad will they be? How bad will the forwards be? How bad will the defence be? How bad will Price be? How will this upcoming train-wreck of a season be everybody but Bergevin's fault?

TOR
•Andersen will start for the Leafs
•John Tavares is a Maple Leaf
•Some big questions heading into the start of the season: How will Babcock manage everyone's ice-time? Will loading up the PP be effective? How much PK time do Tavares and Marner get? Can the defence improve from within? How much will Nylander's absence effect Matthews' line?
•John Tavares is a Maple Leaf

Injuries

•David Schlemko - Knee - Injured Reserve
•Nicolas Deslauriers - Face - Injured Reserve
•Shea Weber - Foot - Injured Reserve
•Jacob De la Rose - Cardiac Episode - Injured Reserve

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / McElhinney and Pickard both claimed off waivers
« on: October 02, 2018, 12:03:53 PM »

10
Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Carrick traded to Dallas
« on: October 01, 2018, 12:15:57 PM »

Did a team near the end of the waiver priority jump in with a trade offer?

11

The Leafs will officially close out their pre-season schedule tonight, albeit with an AHL squad. Must be a tough game for a bunch of these guys to play in knowing they'll be on waivers in a day or two.

12

2nd last pre-season game of the year, and the Leafs will be bringing their full squad out. The only difference in the above line-up is that Pickard will be backing up because Andersen will be playing the full game. Dermott and Hyman both appear ready to return to the line-up after missing some time with injuries.

The Wings are also expected to bring a NHL squad to the game tonight, so get ready to see Dylan Larkin and..... Dylan Larkin.

13

The Leafs will be sending the above group to Montreal, making this the first time we'll see something resembling the opening night roster. It also means it'll be the first time Matthews and Tavares will share the ice, and the first time we'll see our stacked-but-no-Babcock-didn't-stack-it powerplay.

14

All the big guns are getting a rest for this one.

15

Guessing the Dermott-LoVerde pairing sits, as Dermott is coming off a minor shoulder issue. He was wearing a regular contact jersey today instead of the no-contact jersey he wore yesterday, so he he'll likely be playing again in the 2nd half of preseason.
