Game Notes

TOR
•McElhinney (2-1-0, 3.05 GAA, .910 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Back to back situation, and while the Leafs usually start Andersen in the first game we play at home against the Capitals tomorrow night, so I'm going to guess Andersen gets the start in that one instead
•The Leafs made some changes at practice yesterday, most notably bumping Matt Martin out of the line-up in favour of Leivo. It's expected Martin will be a healthy scratch for the first time as a Leaf

CAR
•Scott Darling (6-5-4, 2.69 GAA, .900 Sv%) will likely start for the Hurricanes
•After a stretch where they went 5-1-1, Carolina is coming off their worst loss of the season: a 6-1 beating by the Rangers. The game saw Scott Darling give up a goal where a Ranger player just lobbed it on net from 90 feet away and Darling failed to properly catch it
•Teravainen and Aho will be the Hurricane players to watch tonight: Teravainen has 11 points in his last 5 games while Aho has 10 in his last 5
•Victor Rask, who is in year 2 of a 6 year deal that carries a $4mil AAV, is in the dog house. He's pointless in his last 7 games and after a 2-point season debut he has just 3 points in his last 17 games. He's been a healthy scratch in Carolina's past 2 games but might return to the line-up here

Injuries

•Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
•Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (12-7-0, 2.83 GAA, .914 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•The Leafs are coming off a tough loss on Monday in which they either dominated the Coyotes or got dominated by them, depending on who you ask. They'll look for a bounce-back performance against another team at the bottom of the standings

FLA
•Luongo (4-4-1, 2.78 GAA, .925 Sv%) will likely start for the Panthers
•With Dave Tallon back in charge the Panthers valiantly spent the past offseason correcting the mistakes of the old Computer Boys™ regime. After getting rid of dead weight like Marchessault, Jagr, Smith, Jokinen, and Demers (i.e. 5 of their top 8 scorers from 16/17) the rejuvenated Panthers find themselves... wait... that can't be right... they're FOURTH LAST in the entire league?? But Tallon FIXED everything?!
•Florida has the 2nd highest GA/GP rate in the league, as well as the 2nd worse PK%. Eventually re-acquiring Erik Gudbranson (which is actually rumoured to possibly happen) will fix those issues I'm sure
•One offseason move by the Panthers that has worked out well was bringing Evgeny Dadanov back from the KHL. The 28-year old forward has 17 points in 20 games this season. He's also rocking a very impressive 57.17 CF%, but talk like that might get him benched. He has slowed down a bit recently though with only 3 points in his last 9 games
•Trochek, Huberdeau, and Barkov are all playing incredibly well too, all three have 21 points in 20 games this season... if only they had some other forwards who could score hmmmmm

Injuries

•Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely

ARI
•Antti Raanta (3-5-2, 3.12 GAA, .907 Sv%) will likely start for the Coyotes
•Arizona is bad.
•Dylan Strome might not be though. The 20-year old is currently torching the AHL with 18 points in 12 games

TOR
•Andersen (12-6-0, 2.87 GAA, .914 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Despite winning in Montreal with some new-look lines Babcock said after the game that he would likely revert back to how he started the game. That means on MMM line
•A few Leafs are running hot right now: Kadri has 7 points in his last 6 games, Marner has 6 points in his last 5 games, Rielly has 6 points in his last 6 games, and JVR has 5 points in his last 4 games

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (11-6-0, 3.04 GAA, .909 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Matthews Watch: Auston is getting better and skated in his regular spot between Hyman and Nylander at practice on Friday. We won't know if he's actually playing though until after the morning skate

MTL
•Charlie Lindgren (3-2-1, 2.00 GAA, .938 Sv%) will likely start for the Habs
•Lindgren was an undrafted NCAA free agent signing by Montreal last year and took over the net after Price and Montoya both went down with injuries. He had a very good start to the season but most recently allowed 5 goals to Arizona in a 5-4 loss that Claude Julien called "unacceptable, embarrassing"
•Montreal seems to have been hit with the flu bug: Pacioretty, Drouin, Benn, and Mitchell are all questionable because of it
•The Canadiens find themselves in the bottom-6 in the league in Pts%, GF/GP, GA/GP, PP%, and PK%

Game Notes

NJ
•Schneider (7-3-1, 2.79 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Devils
•The Devils currently sit in first place in the Metropolitan division, and 3rd in the league in points percentage
•Hall is leading the team in scoring with 19 points in 17 games
•Travis Zajac appears ready to make his season debut. He's been out with a pectoral injury that he had surgery for in the summer
•The Devils of course also saw Brian Boyle make his season/team debut a couple of weeks ago

TOR
•Andersen (10-6-0, 3.25 GAA, .901 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Matthews practiced with the team yesterday, meaning he'll likely return to the line-up but he still needs final clearance from the docs

Game Notes

TOR
•McElhinney (1-1-0, 4.10 GAA, .869 Sv%) will get the start for the Leafs
•Matthews will not be traveling with the team to Boston so he's confirmed to be out
•Babcock made one mid-game line-up change last night, moving Nylander to the Marleau line in Brown's place. That change was called for by a very handsome and charming poster in the GDT moments before it happened, we'll have to wait and see if it sticks

BOS
•Rask (3-5-2, 2.77 GAA, .903 Sv%) will likely start for the Bruins
•The Bruins are that team that we played yesterday so finding notes to fill this section up a little bit was sorta pointless so I'm just going to ramble here a little bit more to get some text so it looks like there's something here people who skim this stuff without really reading it will think I did a lot of research here

Game Notes

BOS
•Anton Khudobin (3-0-1, 2.52 GAA, .926 Sv%) will likely start for the Bruins
•The Bruins are icing a preseason-like roster with a number of injuries at forward and just general depth issues as well
•The line of Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak continues to prove to be one of the league's best: Pasta has 16 points in 14 games, Marchand 14 in 12, and Bergeron 10 in 9. Marchand will likely miss his 3rd straight game with a concussion though
•Despite a .500-ish record and that questionable depth, the Bruins appear to be playing fairly well: they're 6th in CF%, 6th in PP%, and 3rd in PK%. They've struggled to score at even-strength though as they sit in the bottom-10 in GF/60 at 5-on-5

TOR
•Andersen (9-6-0, 3.33 GAA, .898 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Matthews Watch is still on, we'll have to patiently wait to see if he's ready to return to the line-up or not. After this back-to-back though the Leafs are off until Thursday
•Andersen and Gardiner were both absent from practice yesterday, both were described as being given maintenance days so it's assumed they should be good to play

Game Notes

MIN
•Alex Stalock (1-1-1, 2.40 GAA, .925 Sv%) will likely start for the Wild
•Minnesota plays Montreal on Thursday and it sounds like Dubnyk will get that start. Dubnyk has struggled so far this season with a 3.03 GAA and .907 Sv%
•The Wild currently sit 3rd last in the Western conference, falling well short of expectations so far this season. They're coming off an ugly 5-3 loss to Boston on Monday where Boudreau called their play "embarrassing"

TOR
•Andersen (8-6-0, 3.43 GAA, .895 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Matthews missed practice on Tuesday because of general soreness, which led to Babcock throwing his forward lines into a blender. Babs did say that he wasn't crazy about how the lines looked so if Matthews misses the game there's a chance we'll see some different combinations

Injuries

Game Notes

VGK
•Maxime Legace (1-3-0, 4.43 GAA, .856 Sv%) will start for the Golden Knights
•After an 8-1 start and 3 injuries to their goaltenders (plus trading away another for scraps), the Golden Knights are starting to sputter. Maxime Legace, an undrafted 24-year old who posted a 0.883 Sv% in 32 AHL games last season hasn't been able to use whatever magic Vegas' other goalies were using to put up wins
•Former Leaf Brendan Leipsic was scoring at an ok-pace earlier this season, recording 4 points (all assists) in 8 games but has found himself as a healthy scratch lately
•It's been scoring-by-committee in Vegas this season, as 12 skaters are currently scoring over half a point per game (for comparisons sake the Leafs only have 11, and one of those is Josh Leivo who may not really exist)

TOR
•Andersen (7-6-0, 3.48 GAA, .895 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•The Leafs are coming home from a pretty brutal road trip and are 2-6 in their last 8 games
•Lines are tough to judge right now. Saturday's game saw Nylander eventually being taken off the Matthews line so we'll have to wait and see if that sticks in this one

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (7-5-0, 3.26 GAA, .901 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Expect some line-up fiddling again with the Leafs, as we might even see a Leivo or Carrick make an appearance again. We'll have to wait for the morning skate to know more though

STL
•Jake Allen (7-3-1, 2.34 GAA, .923 Sv%) will likely start for the Blues
•St. Louis is having a very good season: they're currently tied for 2nd in points and are 14th in GF/GP and 2nd in GA/GP
•One area of concern for St. Louis has been speciality teams: they are bottom-10 in both PP% and PK%
•Jaden Schwartz is 6th in the league in scoring with 17 points in 14 games, while Pietrangelo is tied for 1st among defencemen with 13 points in 14 games
•The Schenn-for-Lehtera trade has worked out well for the Blues so far, Schenn has 11 points in 14 games and seems to have moved back to the centre position full-time

•Curtis McElhinney (1-0-0, 3.00 GAA, .909 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
•Babcock confirmed that Kapanen and Polak will come into the Leafs line-up. He didn't confirm who comes out but I'm guessing the obvious suspects: Leivo and Carrick
•Babs also said that he liked Marleau at centre and that he'll stay there against LA

LA
•Quick (7-2-1, 1.89 GAA, .942 Sv%) will likely start for the Kings
•LA currently has the lowest goals against in the league, averaging just 2 against per game. They're 9th in goals for per game too
•The Kings won 3 straight after losing to the Leafs last week before dropping their last game against St. Louis

Game Notes

TOR
•Andersen (6-5-0, 3.46 GAA, .896 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
•Babcock finally pulled the trigger and did some shuffling with the Leafs line-up. Leivo will be with Kadri and Komarov, a trio that was very successful in their brief time together last season. Marleau was moved to the 3C spot while Bozak was bumped down to 4C
•On defence Connor Carrick has re-entered the Leafs line-up and will play alongside Gardiner. The two were a regular pairing last season

ANA
•John Gibson (5-3-1, 2.80 GAA, .921 Sv%) will likely start for the Ducks
•Gibson did take a shot where the sun doesn't shine at practice yesterday and appeared to be in a fair amount of pain, but he's expected to be fine
•Nick "infinitely inferior to William Nylander" Ritchie missed practice yesterday for an undisclosed reason
•The Ducks will be missing Getzlaf for a little while after he took a puck to the face during their game on Sunday
•Sami Vatanen returned to the Ducks line-up on Saturday but missed their Sunday game. It's expected that was for conditioning reasons so he'll likely be in tonight
•In Vatanen's absence on Sunday Korbinian Holzer skated alongside Hampus Lindholm on Anaheim's top pairing. That likely has nothing to do with tonight's game but I just found it so funny. Good one Randy!

•Projected line-up is based on our last game, but it was said that JVR and Martin were both only expected to miss one game so we'll have to wait and see if they are healthy enough to return
•Patrick Marleau is of course making his return to the city and team where he spent the first 20 years of his NHL career

SJ
•Martin Jones (4-3-0, 2.31 GAA, .928 Sv%) will likely start for the Sharks
•After scoring 29 goals and 76 points last season, Brent Burns is off to a bit of a slow start for his standards: he has 6 points in 10 games but is still looking for his first goal of the season

•Philly's big guns are off to good starts this season: Voracek has 14 points, Couturier and Ghostbear have 12 each, Giroux 11, and Simmonds 9
•Nolan Patrick started his career off with 1 goal and 2 assists in his first 9 games. He missed his last game with what might be a concussion

TOR
•Andersen (6-3-0, 3.54 GAA, .893 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
