Main Leafs Hockey Talk / David Clarkson

Can we get a thread going for him?

Despite being pointless since his return, I really like the element he brings. He plays with size, looks to rub out opponents, and seems to be an all around swirling nexus of energy on most of his shifts.

Been a while since I was compelled to rush out and get a jersey. Digging the #71

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Nazem Kadri

Almost fittingly, kid doesn't even have an eponymous thread on these boards yet, but whoa.

Totally admitted I would have tossed him plus whoever else into a deal for Luongo at the beginning of the season and thought nothing of it.

But now. This last game against Philly, he is really starting to show his value. He is going to command Evander Kane type money at the very least scoring at this pace.

Great to see it on the Leafs for once. Frattin also ... these kids are amazingly confident.

To think back to that moment when we all saw Burkie visibly upset when he couldn't make the move to get the 5th pick in '09 that would have let him draft Brayden Schenn.  Kadri is twice the player Brayden is.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Leafs jersey number conventions?
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:54:34 PM »
I have always wondered what the rules are, and why it should be so conservative if indeed you cannot wear high numbers.

I badly want to see Kadri be #91 on the Leafs. Why not?

Why was Komarov quietly forced to wear #47 when he had been #87 in the KHL and Finnish league? Ok fine the Crosby thing but Sid the Kid has by no means claimed that number yet at this point in his career.

Why are Leaf legend numbers "honored" but not retired? When did they stop retiring numbers, since clearly some have been?

So many questions when it comes to the Leafs and their particular organizationl traditions surrounding jersey numbers.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Mike Kostka

Shockingly, latest rumblings today out of camp have him not on the bubble to make the team as many of us believed, but instead starting tomorrow night on the top pairing with Phaneuf and being told that he has made the top 6.

Still not sure where this guy came from. Wow.

Introductions / Happy to be back
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:48:17 PM »
Just wanted to say that its an honor to be back on the site after a 5 year hiatus. I have been a guest of this site since the penaltybox.com days, and then was out of the country for the last while and forgot all my old passwords and even my old name ... blueandwhite67 ... blueandwhiteblood67 ... it escapes me.

Anyways, I treasure every moment I get to be a part of this community, and this is the single best online sports forum on the planet.  Looking forward to connecting with all of you!

Cheers!

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / What now?
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:44:15 PM »
So its done. As much as we are all disappointed by a trade deadline with only minor-league movement, I think we can all agree that it would be weird to have Nash and Nabokov on our team today. Maybe "good weird", but weird nonetheless.

20 games to go, and we have a decent farm team to supplement what we have. We are in 10th place, but a couple win streaks could catapult us right back into the swing of things. We have seen enough out of this time this year to know that this is possible.

What combinations can we put together to finish strong? We're not firing Wilson, we're playing with our boys, and our goalies are Reimer and Gustavsson.

I wanted to start a thread devoid of negativity, and full of just straight realism. How can we work with what we have?
