NHL Transactions / Re: Domi to MTL for Galchenyuk

I actually think that this trade will finally work out for the Habs ,unlike their previous ones. He will bring spark to a team that,s been lacking in excitement.
Like the spark he brought to Arizona? Not a fan of Domi at all. Arizona got the best player in the deal. Being a Leafs fan, I like the deal.
I hear what your saying,I,m enjoying the Habs futility, but they made so many sideway trades and worse. The law of averages probably gives them a break and they win a trade finally.
I know Domi didn't do much there ,but he may change in a hockey market like MTL.

General Rumours & Speculation / Re: All that cap space
« on: May 28, 2018, 10:13:59 PM »
One thing to keep in mind is that we really don't want to be forced to go over the cap next season because of bonuses, because we don't want to carry an overage into the 19/20 season. That's when Matthews and Marner's contracts kick in and if we aren't able to get rid of Marleau's cap hit things will be very tight that season.

So we should be trying to keep about $3-4mil in cap space open next season, and that's including Horton's cap hit.

I,m noticing that you as well as a few others are not including Nylanders contract value in the cap.Do you except the idea that he,s being traded or put on a bridge deal.

If traded then we have to absorb the contract coming back, which I,m thinking would be same value unless there are picks involved.

Fine there have been worse contracts.  But this one is really bad IMO.

You never know...Sometimes it takes longer for people to grow up.It might work out if he can produce and keep himself around the right people. It,s not like good power forwards grow on trees.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Lou Will Not Return
« on: May 21, 2018, 10:14:47 PM »
I can't help but wonder if Lou taking another job so quickly isn't maybe a sign that the transition here maybe wasn't as smooth as we'd like to think and if there maybe wasn't a bit more of a push out the door than the "orderly 3 year plan" might indicate. It seems like he certainly thinks he's still capable of running a team and you can't help but think he'd have wanted to see things through here.

Do you think that there,s any chance that Lou with the Islanders could facilitate a trade with the Leafs to get the best out of a Taveras, who just might be leaving for free agency. Since he would know the Leafs depth of prospects.
My thinking is ,if that would be the case the Leafs would have to get rid of a bigger contract to make a Taveras fit.  Just can't think who that could be?

Any chance for something like that or not?

Just listened the Dubas introduction on the radio. Nothing overly exciting mentioned.

The reporters kept going back to Hunter trying to get something out of Shanahan or Dubas but they did a pretty good job talking around the Hunter questions. Shanahan did acknowledge that Hunter really wanted the job and did praise Hunter a fair bit and actually corrected himself when he mentioned Hunter is past tense to present tense. So... I am guessing he's gone and the Leafs probably already know it.

Surely Hunter wouldn't leave before the draft.  would he?

I sure would like to know what the holdup is. If Dubas is the supposed GM  what is Shanahan waiting for?  Maybe by committee

Might open up the game a little more for both teams, now that their watching the hits that closely.

I'm feeling confident that the Leafs will take this series.  No more than 5 or 6 games. Better goal tending, better coach.

I made that comment without knowing  how many players can be protected. I,m assuming that a couple of core players would have to be exposed.

I think they've effectively confirmed that the rules for Seattles draft will be the same as Vegas'.
Looking at your list:  Zaitsev,Dermott,Brown would be left unprotected  .That's a lot to give Ottawa for 1 year of service in Karlsson.  I wouldn't give them that much.

14
I like Anderson as the MVP

My trade:  Trade two or three players that can't be saved in the Seattle draft to Ottawa for Eric Karlsson for next year while we have cap space for him.

So assuming the Leafs protected list will be something along the lines of Marner, Matthews, Kadri, Nylander, Kapanen, Hyman, Whoever their #3 C is, Rielly, Gardiner, Liljegren and Andersen...which 2 or 3 players not on that list do you suppose Ottawa would take for Erik Karlsson?
