This is the winner.....

I am not sure why Babcock does not play McBackup more often, he is a capable goalie, who in his 18 starts had a better save percentage then Andersen. Give him another 7 starts then Andersen will not have any issue with been tired in late Mar/Apr.
McBackup might not even be with the Leafs. I don't see Sparks and/or Pickard clearing waivers so unless Dubas trades one of our goalies I think they may expose McBackup instead of trying to slide Sparks through. Like always tho, we'll see.

Leonard is considered the 2nd best "player" meaning all around to Lebron. That's how good he is. He does everything extremely well and defending is his claim to fame, something Derozan was pretty much terrible at. They also got Green who is also a good defensive player that can shoot the 3 ball so this is a huge upgrade. They have a year to convince him to stay.

TSN radio called Leonard the Patrice Bergeron of the NBA.
Thats who I was thinking of... think of it like we traded Kadri for Bergeron...

This move makes us WAY better.  Like, 8 expected wins on the season better  (from 53 to 61).  Nobody is touching the Warriors, but we aren't far off from the rest of the leagues "contenders".
Didn't the Raps win 59 last year? Can't see them winning 67 this season.
And just saw deal is done.....time will tell

Expected wins is different than win last season.

Edit:
Btw, by his model, the Raps are a close second to the Warriors.  Expected ORtg: 2nd.  Expected DRtg:  2nd.    Boston and Philly are projected at 55 wins.

Thx for the info...from a pure loyalty side, this trade is bad. DD was told he wouldn't be traded and now he is. Looks bad and even worse by firing the coach of the year. Something had to give tho.

Anyone think Rosen could be in the lineup? From what I saw, he looked very good for the Marlies. By all acoounts, Borgman also improved a lot going down to learn the small ice surface. Is there a chance 1 of them slots in and maybe Jake or Reilly moves to the right side? How about Ozhiganov, or Holl?

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: 2018 Offseason Review
« on: July 13, 2018, 04:44:21 PM »

I appreciate that Leafs fans have no real reason to not be thrilled with this off-season in light of the big move so to get that out of the way: Hooray for Tavares! He's big and good and handsome and so on.

But that said...wow. It's Tavares and a bunch of pieces who could charitably be called depth. I recognize that the cap issues mean that we shouldn't have expected much more but it does make you wonder what this team would look like if Tavares had grown up a Red Wings fan.

I can't help but agree. Unless Dubas was the difference between Tavares signing here and not, I'd call the offseason fall slightly to the side of underwhelming, to this point.
Really? If he didn't sign here it would be underwhelming but HE DID!! I bet 30 other teams wished they'd had such a crappy off season and especially the 5 that were in on JT.

Actually it doesn't because we have him. No need to play the what if game.

Boychuk at $6m for another 4 years, Ladd at $5.5 for another 5 years...
And really, did Tavares have any other choice then to leave NYI? I don't think so...

the sisterhood is gonna kill me, but I don't have the slightest bit of interest in women's hockey.

sorry.
Love your honesty and I completely agree with you.

What I love is, Dubas systematically dismantling and taking away all of Babcock's favourite toys.

**giggles**
This is what Ray Ferraro said late last year when the debate was Johnsson or Leo. Ray said it's up to the next GM to take away Mike's toys as it forces him to play your guys. I suspect that Leivo may actually get a chance this year. I think he's an NHLer but Babs had too many options. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Leivo with Lindholm and Brown as a 4th line. I think Johnsson and Kaps will play with Kadri. Going to be interesting for sure!

I'm still of the opinion that after watching Leivo's junior here's in Sudbury that he is too weak of a skater to be a full time NHLer.

I appreciate your perspective boss, I know you coach and can see these things, but hes had several years of Barb Underhill tutelage since then. Having watched him on the Marlies a fair bit, I think he skates as well or better than most NHL fourth liners.
He doesn't seem out of place on the Leafs when he plays either. Will never be known for speed but can get up and down the rink.

Subban may not be as skilled as his big bro PK, but he skates just like him.

Dubas knows him well from facing Utica often. Gilman knows him well from being part of the team that drafted him. This is another free bet on their development team to spin up another toolsy player.
Yup. Dubas thinks they can get the most out of him. Apparently he has a great shot and has some talent that hasn't been tapped yet. Let's see what the Leafs development team can do with him.
