Ugh...for real this time, I don't think Carrick did enough to deserve anything but the role he played last year, and that's not worth $1.3m against my cap.

I know they've got a little room this season, and it's only one year, but still. I'd have thought around $900K to sit in the press box for half the season.

I'm with Frank.  Carrick's only asset is his handedness.

I was a big Carrick fan after the 16/17 season, but even when he was in the line-up he didn't impress me much this past season. It's possible that was just a usage thing, so I'm willing to give him another chance. He's still young-ish (he's only a year older than Borgman, and Rosen is actually a couple months older than him).

Borgman deserves to be in the lineup more than CC, but again, handedness.

Trotz just won them a Cup and they won't give him $25M over 5 years as a reward.  That's what it boils down to.  While I think you can make the argument that he deserves that kind of "bonus," the reality is that the Caps probably won't become a multi-Cup winning team at this stage, and having Trotz behind the bench, as opposed to someone else, isn't going to make any difference in that.

My lord, he is so engaging. It's so refreshing to have a GM who's willing to speak candidly, while still not divulging sensitive information.

I really couldn't stand the Lou era. I'm so glad it's done.

https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2018/06/18/kyle-dubas-on-approach-to-the-2018-draft-i-know-some-people-say-hes-only-a-trade-down-person-i-dont-know-how-that-got-to-that-point/

His answers are tinged with Lou-isms though. And overtly referenced at one point.

What people have failed to acknowledge is that Lou will be exerting his powers of mind control on the unsuspecting youngster.  Which is why you'll soon be reading this headline: "Martin heading back to Islanders for conditional 7th; Leafs retain 100% of salary."

NHL Transactions / Re: Domi to MTL for Galchenyuk

Domi will make them harder to play against at least, when the chips are down he doesn’t sulk and likes to play with an edge and that’s still part of the game. Gallagher 2.0

I wonder if that's the thinking here. Maybe there were a lot of voices in the organization that wanted to address their pestiness and look at Brady Tkachuk or someone but by virtue of adding Domi they can look elsewhere at #3.

Or maybe they grab Tkachuk anyway.  The Rue Broad Bullées?  :P

The thing I took away from my watching the Marlies for 15 minutes is that Andreas Johnsson will be on the big club come Octo.  That's what you call a razor-sharp insight.

I have a hard time believing that the 10- or 11-month developmental difference Gladwell talks about at age 8 means much 10 years later, especially when the people involved have already been sorted out of the general populace and keenly graded on a narrow set of (hockey) skills.

What complete BS. The puck never went in and the whistle blew
Unreal call...had to be in on the first attempt?? Sure didn't go in after that.

Yeah, I might have to eat my words, but none of the angles we saw could have told you that it went in on that first try.

That was complete and total garbage.

I mean, literally the worst call I have ever seen.  Even I could see it never went across.

Does it strike anyone else as being very strange that the AHL is still playing after the NHL is done?

That wasn't the greatest play there by the texan goalie.
