Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Media Thread

Usually, I copy/paste the web link of the tweet and then paste the link again swapping out the https:// for www. so people using apps/browsers that doesn't show the auto-embed have a shot at opening the link.

And now I have learned something new so my day is complete.  ;)

I seem to lack the skill to show the tweet... but Eric Duhatschek has left the Globe and Mail after 17 years there and is now also with The Athletic.

This is very cool. I signed up when it was just Mirtle. This is all great for hockey coverage.

The Athletic TO dropped their beat writer, David Alter, though, and I'm not sure why. They picked up Scott Wheeler instead (full-time now) for Leafs and Marlies and draft coverage.

This is from David Alter. I found it interesting that he never mentioned James Mirtle. But I like Wheeler and Mirtle covering the Leafs, so even though I was okay with Alter, I won't miss him.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Question About Leafs/ACC In Game Entertainment
« on: January 09, 2017, 08:22:40 PM »
I was at the game Saturday night. I'm very impressed with the music and on-screen entertainment during TV times outs etc. It's a lot more "fun" to be at a game now compared with even just a few years ago.

During the second intermission they played a video of clips (about 5 minutes long) from the past 100 years. I can find the video on YouTube easily enough, but not with the song they played it with at the game. I'm hoping that maybe someone here attends games and knows what I am talking about. Anyone? I'd love to know the name of that song.

Any chance that the entire 90 minute ceremony is available somewhere online?

By my count there are 12 players changed from this opening roster compared to last years:

Out - Parenteau, Spaling, Lupul, Matthias, Winnik, Boyes, Arcobello, Grabner, Panik, Phaneuf, Reimer, Bernier

In - Mattews, Marner, Nylander, Hyman, Micalek, Martin, Brown, Griffith, Carrick, Zaitsev, Andersen, Enroth

Great job on the game day thread Carlton.

One correction though. Josh Leivo is not on the Leafs roster right now. The only extra forward is Seth Griffith.

p.s. I just noticed that you started the post yesterday morning before that would have been known..... but there it is anyway.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Polak Signs 1 Year Deal

This makes me think that Hunwick-Rielly being a thing again is more likely, so I'm guessing our blueline looks something like this right now:

I think Zaitsev is projected to log more minutes than a 3rd pairing guy. He is likely ahead of Polak.

I wonder if he is going to need a haircut.

I am really sorry if this is repetitive, but now that "you know who" is not coming to Toronto, is there a list anywhere on this site or elsewhere that shows who is headed for UFA on Friday? Does anyone here feel strongly about any of them in terms of the Leafs?

If anyone is able to respond, thanks in advance.

Leafs Media Rumours / Re: Steve Stamkos?

If Buffalo signs him for $12 million I am sure the Leafs will still have the last laugh. I would love to have Stamkos, but I would not want anyone at that price.

NHL News Updates

I have no idea if this site is at all credible, but someone I know just sent it to me. It lends to the idea that Bernier is on his way out.... which makes a lot of sense.

Or Bernier.....?

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Phaneuf To Sens
« on: February 09, 2016, 11:40:11 AM »
Tobias Lindberg was a 4th round pick by the sens in 2013. He's 20 years old, has 22 points in 34 games in his first season in the AHL. 6'3'', 215lbs. Scored 78 points in 67 games in the OHL last season. Played for Oshawa under now-Leafs assistant coach D.J. Smith.

That's a great connection to pick up on.
