All Sports But Hockey / Re: Jim Kelly

I just read on Twitter that (ex Buffalo Bill) Jim Kelly's cancer is back. Another long fight for Jim. Poor guy.. Seems like he can't get a break... Sick of cancer..

Diehard Bills fan, I'll be pulling for Jim again!

Cancer f'ing sucks!
Lost my mom to cancer when I was 25, my wife was diagnosed with cancer a few months before our wedding (thankfully now cancer free) and my younger brother was diagnosed with cancer in December (same type as Mario Lemieux).

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Trade Deadline

I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit disappointed they didn't get a d-man.

Like others have said why trade for Plekanec, keep all your UFAs and then just stand pat on the blueline? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Reminds me of the 2002 deadline, Leafs had a solid team, only a piece or two away IMO, and what do they for a washed up Tom Barrasso! Talk about disappointment!

At the same time I realize it's not quite the Leafs time yet, but getting really mixed signals from Leafs management with the moves that were and were not made the last 48 hours.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: The Lupul Situation

Not that it matters at this point, but Leafs giving #19 to Plekanec one last jab at Lupul? He is still technically under contract until the end of this season, could have made #19 off limits until then?

Found this in an old Toronto Star article regarding Lupul's jersey number:
"In his six seasons with the Maple Leafs, he has worn No. 19 in admiration of Hall of Famers Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman. The digits mean something to him."

Bruins have signed Brian Gionta for the rest of the season.

The 50% salary retained tells me the Leafs are going to make a big splash next.

It has to be for a defenceman. Right?
Any takers as to who they might be looking at?

Ryan McDonagh???

It will take some getting used to seeing him without that Habs jersey on.  :P
This is a solid move for the Leafs though, will help boost their playoff drive this year.
Seems to set up another trade for the Leafs shortly, likely giving up a forward for a d-man?

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Soshnikov traded to the Blues

Unfortunately Sosh got caught up in the numbers game. Probably the first of a few tough decisions the team will need to make on young talented players in order to build a Cup contender. Best of luck in St. Louis!

Jaime Garcia signing as the Jays 5th starter will keep Biagini in the pen and that is a good thing.

Jerry Howarth is retiring from calling Blue Jays games.  What a long run.  I'll miss him.

Yeah it will be strange not hearing his voice on the radio calling Jays games anymore. Lots of good memories growing up listening to Tom and Jerry.

Hopefully they bring in someone half decent as a replacement. Mike Wilner is a smug, corporate slug, douche!

Buds very impressive lately!

Curious to know the last time the Leafs got back to back shutouts from a goalie tandem?

Back to back choke jobs!  :-[

Granderson will be turning 37, but at this point he is better than Bautista and if nothing else he is a lefty bat which the Jays needed.
Jays also need bats at the top of the order and Granderson hit lead-off for the Mets in 30 games last year.
It's a 1 year deal so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over it.
I still think the Jays add another OF before the season starts.
