Title: Winnipeg signs Ehlers to extension [7 years, $6mil AAV]
Post by: CarltonTheBear on October 04, 2017, 09:42:25 AM

That's a very solid contract for Winnipeg. Ehlers went one spot behind Nylander in the 2014 draft, and scored 64 points in his sophomore season last year.

Nylander comparable perhaps?

Nylander comparable perhaps?

He outscored Nylander last season by a few points. Sure, it was his 2nd season compared to Willie's 1st but they are still the same age. Ehlers just got into the NHL in his D+1 while the Leafs waited on Nylander. But this coupled with the Pasta signing makes me comfortable that $7mil would be the highest Nylander would get if we signed him right now... which we absolutely should do.

With Nylander though I wonder if he doesn't want to lock himself in at Winger prices when he's really only there because of Babcock's reluctance to move him over to where most of us think he'll end up eventually.

Anyone think there is a chance all three of the triplets sign a new deal July 1st next year at the same price?

8 x $7.5 for all three should they have another productive year?

Wishful thinking on my part for sure, but we can dream.

Nope, I wish though. Probably get Nylander and Marnier at that price, I honestly hope maybe for a little less. I can't see Matthews settling that low.

Yeah, I dunno. If Matthews takes what Eichel got then he's doing us a favour even at that rate.

Honestly if you asked me to ballpark what I thought each guy would get it probably wouldn't come up to much more than 25 million for the three of them(7.5 per for Marner/Nylander, 10 for Matthews).

I think we can dream bigger than a 2.5 million dollar savings.
