Title: A Request re: Ads on TMLfans.ca
Post by: Rick Couchman on October 26, 2015, 12:06:18 PM
Can I ask a favour of the masses here?

I know that many of you have ad blockers that you use in your day-to-day surfing.  Can I ask that you make let just our site allow ads?  Like them or hate them, ads are keeping us limping along.  It really would help - and there shouldn't be pop-ups on the site anymore!

It'd be great if we could get a bit more ad revenue coming in...

I did it, but to be honest, I do a lot of my browsing on tapatalk, that's why I try and toss a few bucks in the pot every few months.

Oh and maybe it's just me, but unless you have your browser in full screen mode, the ads completely screw up the page layout, I guess they are sized for full screen.

CRAP.  Anyone else having the same issue with ads breaking the page?  Works fine for me, but if it's causing issues for anyone - lemme know!

The right banner flows over the Body element's right edge when the window is constrained (I never go full screen). Then the post elements sort of follow suit (esp. on mobile) and spill over the underlying Body element edge as well. Left side is perfect.

Ahh, thanks.  I disabled that ad for now.  Thanks guys!

That's a good quick-fix. Working well for the computer browser.

On mobile (Safari):
Homepage looks fine, but the post overflow is still happening in the Thread/Reply page. Not a dealbreaker by any stretch as it is only readily apparent at the top and bottom of the page.

I'll take a look at that Herman.  That's not quite the same quick fix ;)

Yeah the right banner was always the one that bugged me. I never really noticed it messing up the layout, but it was always so much bigger and just seemed to cause an ad-overload. Looks more reasonable now.

Just unblocked the ads now and everything works for me, but I'm just on a regular laptop using Chrome.

There is a particularly obnoxious ad for Aliexpress.com that runs across the top of a lot of pages. It's formatted incorrectly as you can only see a small window of the ad, but it causes the frame to expand to about 2.5 times the normal ad size.

This causes the whole page format to be distorted.

Any way to resolve this on my end without having to turn adblocker back on?
