Title: Welcome to TMLfans Replacement Forum
Post by: Simple Machines on July 10, 2011, 05:49:57 PM
The site database got corrupted somehow.

In spite of efforts made since that time, it has not been corrected yet.

For the time being, this is a place for folks to chat until we figure out how to resolve the technical issue.

but nothing yet to indicate whether it's a one or two way deal.

It's likely that the Caps offered more financially than the Leafs.

Did the Leafs make an offer?

Don't know for sure. They didn't re-sign him as a RFA until Aug 31 last year - kind of a long dangle over dough. Here's his contract history:
http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=195
Because he played more in the NHL the year before last, he made more money that year than last year - even though his AHL salary was higher last year.

They may not have had much patience for that process this year and let him go the John Mitchell route. Unlike Mitchell, he very likely found a better situation for himself.

Zigomanis did better on his deal with the Leafs for next season:
http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=496
But even he, with his named etched on the Cup, didn't get a one way deal.

Although they didn't play 6 NHL games like Hanson did last season, Scott & Hamilton were arguably more useful Marlies and only got slight increases.
http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=1244
http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=1290
Of course neither up them likely posses the NHL potential upside Hanson does.

It will be right up there with when the Bruins drafted Seguin

Well, I wish him luck. Hopefully Nik will feel better about this soon enough.

Me too. I didn't mind him though I'm not convinced he was "the one" that got away. He has size, physical play ability and was good at faceoffs. But not that hot offensively or defensively as a Pker like Brent or Boyce.

Apparently, he lives in PA and the Caps AHL team is in Hershey while Washington is not that far away. And even if he made the same dough, it would be a way for him to get a fresh look. At 25, he doesn't have many cracks left to make the NHL full time.

I thought he played like a bull in a few games but they probably got him thinking about so many things ... and in fairness to them, he was a pretty raw talent. It hurt his offence some. He has the physical tools to make it. I just don't know if he can learn good defence quickly enough.

He certainly had his moments, there were a lot of us that were in his corner and wanted him to be "that guy". He'll have to work on that skating, to be able to play a good defensive game.

The previous layout sported a 'bolder' look.

This new one has a more 'refined' look.  It's going to take a little getting used to, not much though.  I do like it.

...Ottawa's resurgence.

.....and Vancouver's 'disappearance'.

No wonder they rioted!  Looks like B.C.'s justice system is in tatters....

http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/07/05/system-overload/ (http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/07/05/system-overload/)

Vancouver criminal defense lawyer Jason Tarnów tells Maclean’s. There is “no way” riot cases will get preferential treatment just because politicians are asking for it; that would be unconstitutional. Rioters will be processed by a justice system hobbled by judge, sheriff and prosecutorial shortages and a legal-aid system that no longer meets even basic needs, according to a recent report. “Justice will not be swift,” adds criminologist Robert Gordon, of Simon Fraser University. “This will be a long, drawn-out process.”

" week before the riot in fact, five Vancouver trials were ordered shut down after judges deemed courtrooms unsafe to proceed due to a shortage of sheriffs....(In the wake of the riots, funding for sheriffs was quietly restored.)

Of the more than 1,100 people held over the Toronto G20 weekend last summer, only 317 were ever charged. And of those, 58 per cent had their charges withdrawn, stayed or dismissed. The rioters who took part in Vancouver’s violent anti-Olympic protest last year have all, meanwhile, escaped criminal punishment.

Can a Vancouver rioter try and hide? No way.
Check this out ...

This is the photo taken by Port Moody photographer Ronnie Miranda that appeared in the Tri-City News on Friday (24-June).

When you open this up, check the left hand side where you can upsize the photo, and click on the Yellow print "view with GigaTag".

This is actually scary.  You can see - almost perfectly - the faces of every single individual (you'll notice some glitches where the camera technology "stitched" the multiple pictures together and some people have 1 eye or two heads). LOL.

Privacy?  Just think what the police and the military have at their disposal.

Will anyone get mad at me if I steal orange and black's username and start posting things like "Crosby is a god" and "I wish we had Carter and Richards back; Giroux and van Reimsdyke are nothing without them"?  (anyone aside from orange and black)?

I'm surprised no one has done that to Sucker yet ...

Glad we have somewhere to talk about the Leafs again. I almost wandered over to HFBoards.
Friends don't let friends post at HF.

I very rarely ever post there, but I do lurk quite often. Right now there's a Phaneuf or Subban thread in the poll section going on. I clicked it thinking that Subban would be dominating and there would be quite a few 'Phaneuf sucks' comments, but it's actually incredibly close. At the time of this post it's actually 38-36 in Phaneuf's favour (with 3 'same' votes).

By the way, is cw on a mission to start ALL threads?  Will he be annoyed if somebody else starts one?  http://tmlfans.ca/community/Smileys/default/wink.gif

I can use all the help I can get! A few others have started some threads.

I just wanted to try to get something going because it looked pretty awful.

I'm out of thread ideas for the moment.

I appreciate the effort.

Hi Folks,

I haven't posted much in the last little while, but I am always reading.

As a Flyers fan even though it is a Leafs board, I still consider it a great hockey board and glad to have it back even in this minimalist form.

Get well soon Rick!!

Honestly, I had no problem with the Carter deal as he wasn't a strong playoff performer and they wanted to get Bryzgalov under the cap.

But the Richards deal just came out of nowhere and I think will hurt the team in the next couple of years.
The Flyers have enough offence with Giroux and JVR and Briere (only in the playoffs of course) but will miss Richards as a shut-down centre. He always played against the other team's top-line and could shut them down. This is where it will hurt them especially when they face the Caps or the Pens in the playoffs.

But what perplexes me most is, could the Flyers have not just convinced Vokoun to come to Philly for 2 years and pay him more than the Caps and then let Vokoun play until one of their young goalies was ready to take-over.

They completely overpaid for Bryz and then having to make all those moves after the fact will hurt the team in the short-term for sure and the Bryz contract will hurt them in the long-term as well.

Paul Holmgren was almost in tears when he announced the trades.

I just don't understand how you are crying yet still trading them.

I think something else was at work here, either Snider wanted to rid of them or someone else besides Holmgren. Something just doesn't sit right in this whole ordeal

It certainly reeks of internal on-goings. I wouldn't have moves Richards either, as I think they could have traded parts to get a good goalie, if not in a Carter deal. If Couturier doesn't pan out, that deal will look bad IMO.

And you have to credit the organization for FINALLY getting a NHL goalie.

I didn't understand why they didn't 'rent' Vokoun at the deadline nor do I understand why they didn't check him out as a UFA who would have cost less.

I also don't understand why they tossed two twenty somethings approaching their prime to be left with core players like 33 yr old Briere and 36 yr old Pronger and Timonen who they're banking on. I could understand one of Carter/Richards to free up cap space and to deal with the glut of top 6 talent they had at center.

Regardless of what I think above though, at the end of the day, they've got a good roster with a decent shot next season pending the health of the key older guys like Briere & Pronger.

There's going to be quite a battle for top spot in the East next season.

I think Philly has the goaltending and forwards to make them a top 4 team in the East. Even with Pronger, I'm not crazy about their "D" but still, it shouldn't stop them from being a top Eastern team.

All the moves will set them back just enough that they will be fighting for there lives with all the other teams looking to grab the 7 and 8 spots.

Others have kind of asked this question. I don't speak for the site owners - just as someone trying to help them out. All I can tell you is I don't know the answer so that you get an answer and are not being ignored.

Until we know the state of the data, it's hard to assess if it can be recovered. At the moment, to the best of my knowledge, we're waiting on direction from RickC - who is tied up with health issues.

Hey folks.  I'm out of hospital after 55 days there this summer.  I've got a lot of catching up to do with life at the moment.  I've tried, and tried, but the database was way too corrupted.  Nothing makes me sadder than losing that.  On top of that we had to upgrade to a more secure version of our forum software (SMF 2.0) and our old theme is not compatible with the new version.

So, the new database is what we'll be using, and we're working on a new look and feel - with the hopes that we can get it at least somewhat similar to our old look and feel.

I really like the new look. Don't know what you guys have planned but I think a blue background to contrast the white foreground of the boards would look awesome :)

The new look is great and it is good you are out of the hospital, sad that the database is like that but it is the posters that matter.  We just have to look to the future and things will look brighter.

Well done Rick, don't worry about performing miracles with the old DB.  The community is the thing, not the record of the community.

Rick, that's a long time to be in the hospital.  Hopefully you're feeling better, but if your not up to 100% just take it easy.  Not sure where you're located, but if you ever need a hand with something, I'm usually staying in a hotel somewhere near Pearson International during the week.  I'm pretty handy having built everything from artificial limbs to water-treatment plants.

Hope things are well for you sir, and thanks for all your efforts in running the site in whatever way it manifests itself - one of the best web sites to visit, read, and post to, and by far the best Leafs site!

Cheers!

I'm definitely glad to have the forum back up and running with minimal downtime. I haven't contributed much in content lately, but I still enjoy the banter, discussions, and speculation. Can't wait for game day threads though!

I like the simple look of the new forum. My only criticism -- if you don't mind -- is that I can barely distinguish between the different colours of the leaves that indicate whether there's a new post or not in a particular forum. I'm partially colour blind and my trouble areas are dark blues amongst others. (I can't distinguish between dark blue and black.) Obviously not a priority, but if there was anyway to make a bit more contrast, that'd be awesome.

Rick, so glad to see you back hun and out of the hospital.  Many many positive thoughts that things only get better from here for you, healthwise, etc...

And while I love this site and the posters in it, your health is most important.  Thanks for keeping things up and running.  You guys are the best, all of you!

Sorry about your loss Anton.  While my wife has never miscarried, the receptionist at our doctor's office did tell us almost 14 years ago that we had.  A very rough 24+ hours until the ultrasound told us differently. ( As an aside, that baby started high school on me today )  I hope you and your wife find yourselves blessed with a child soon.

I always allow pop-ups from this site. Sometimes I even click on them! Albeit miniscule, it's money towards keeping this place open.

I can handle the ads if it means revenue for the site, but it seems like the old forum was a lot wider. There are huge margins on the side of the page, any chance we can open those up and give it a bit more breathing room? Thanks for all the effort guys, keep it up!

I'm not quite sure where to put this, but am I the only one who has noticed there's no link to the forums on the new home page?

Now for me, it's a big deal because by now I know the url to get to the forums but for somebody else it might be an issue. Then again, it might just be me. I suck at the internet.

There was a bug with the old system, Rick is sorting out the new one. The current one is a temporary fix but later on there will probably be a makeover of the site.

That's pretty much it.  The company that hosts our server did a server restart for us at pretty much the same time I was updating the front page.  I lost the front page template (well, I have it, but it's in pieces).
