Wheee...

Roman Josi was also drafted with a pick (38th in 2008) that had actually originally belonged to the Leafs.  The Leafs sent that pick to Arizona in the Yanic Perreault trade, and Arizona later sent the pick to Nashville, who selected Josi.
The Weber pick was never the Leafs though. If Nashville received that for the belfour signing that was just a new pick the league created not the Leafs pick they had to give up for signing him.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Trade Deadline

I wonder if the market for jvr isn't as good as we hope. There isn't a shortage of scoring wingers available this year with Nash, Grabner, Kane, patches, Hoffman, Vanek etc all more likely to be traded than jvr is

Every time I hear the announcers mention Pulock my heart skips a beat before my brain remembers Polak isn't playing

I can handle Komorov as a fourth line pk specialist who can fill in higher in case of an injury. I'd be ok with him getting resigned to play that role, I just don't trust Babcock to keep him in that role of he is resigned unfortunately. The guy should not be in the top 9 on this team.

Someone actually looked into this in detail yesterday: --snip--

PK% is just like +/-, in that the events are so rare it's hard to get a stable reading for anything predictive. Even shot shares are spiky and highly dependent on deployment.

A deeper cut would probably have to look at PK xG data and some heat maps.

... snip...

I'm not entirely sure how to read these, but dark green is good, right? If Polak is playing the right d position then these are saying he actually is good at suppressing shots in his area of coverage on the pk, don't they?

Of course there is more involved then just this to say whether he is actually good on the pk or not (shot clearings, time spent in the d zone etc) but I'd rather not see any info that might lead to somebody defending Polak's usage :(

NHL Transactions / Re: 2017-18 Minor Transactions Thread

Cammalleri being traded for Jokinen only getting mentioned under the minor transactions thread makes me feel old.

It can't be that long ago that this would have been a major deal, can it? Maybe I don't want the answer to that.

Oh.
That's, uh, not a good thing for the people in power to be throwing out there as a possibility

What more can be said about this team? Absolutely unreal talent, I've never enjoyed watching hockey as much as I enjoy watching these kids

2011 to 2017 GDTs (OLD) / Re: Avs @ Leafs - Dec. 11th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

I think the best way they can add offense at this point is upgrades on the back end. Gardiner is separating himself as the best offensive D man on the team; and probably the best overall - and ideally, he's a #3.

Agreed.  At the moment their d is made up of 3 #3's and 3 #7's.  For a rush team... other than gardiner no one can make a stretch pass
So in your opinion neither Carrick or Marincin are top 6 dmen and both should regularly be in the press box?

Thanks all. Not really looking for sympathy but sometimes venting helps.

The thing is I was OK with the cancer diagnosis. Dealing with it sucks but the long term outlook was very promising. The cheating was a real kick to the balls but if it wasn't for the kid I would have ditched her two years ago (this wasn't the first time), so not really mourning the loss there.

But the threat to take my kid away was too much. She has a terrible case, I'm the primary parent, he's in school here and both our families are here. But you never know what's going to happen if you have to go court and even if it all works out it'll cost a fortune.

You know what's not fun? Finding out you have cancer when you're in your early thirties. You know what's worse? While undergoing treatment finding out your wife is cheating on you and has been for some time.

And the real kicker? She claims she's moving an hour away and intends to try and take your only child with her.

So how does one read this chart? Is Zaitsev bad but fun or fun and just not as good as Gardiner? Is Gardiner good and dull?

General Rumours & Speculation / Re: Armchair GM 2016-2017

Just how good is Trouba? The impression I've always held was that he currently isn't as good as Reilly and his ceiling isn't as high as Reilly either.

Is that accurate, and if so is he really worth paying more money and additional assets then just Gardiner?

How good defensemen are isn't an exact science just yet but I've read some things that indicate he's a bit better than his numbers indicate with some real room for growth. Obviously his not being used on his preferred side complicates matters some but I think opinion is high that he can be a top pairing guy even if not a legit #1.
So a little more comparable to Reilly than I thought, thanks.

I'm not the guy who's most up to date on advanced stats so it's hard for me to tell. I've heard some question his decision making abilities, but the same has been said about Gardiner for years too.

These peoples in Manitoba need to lay off with the air raid siren.
Not to mention the stupid emphasis on 'true north' during the anthem.
