Ottawa’s next two games are against Colorado on their Sweden trip.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, Girard, Kamenev, Hammond and Bowers for Duchene seems like a good haul for Colorado.

I was just going to say. If you just look at the prospects and where they were drafted that's the equivalent of two 1sts, 3 2nds and a 3rd for Duchene.

I wonder if taking Hammond gives them the opportunity to trade Varlomov as well.

So Turris was drafted the same year as JVR.  Centres are more important than wingers, but still, looking at what the Preds gave up to get Turris, I wonder if that is a framework for what JVR could get as well?  Essentially the 3 seconds part.

I always thought that if JVR was traded to a team he was willing to sign an extension with a fair expected return would be a 1st rounder and a B/B- level prospect. To me, that's roughly what Nashville gave up.

I think Nashville actually did fairly well here. My guess is that's because the other teams in the deal were fairly motivated sellers.

Yeah. Duchene is better, but the difference between them is not Bowers, a 1st and a 3rd. I don't think the sens do much to improve their team here, while they weaken their future in the process.

Nashville and Colorado both come out on the winning end of this deal.

He's an AHL goalie who performed very poorly in his 6 NHL games last season . . . so, I'm going to guess that adding him doesn't impact the Avs plans for Varlamov.

Sure but let's be real. The reason Duchene was a big get was because of the belief that he's not what he's been the last few years and that a change in scenery could make him more like the kind of guy who made Team Canada in '14.

I think that's debatable but that's what they're trading for here and it's why Sakic was able to get it.

It could of the plan is to tank.

Looks like Sakic finally won that game of chicken. That's a very, very good haul of picks + prospects there. Getting 2 other teams was actually a very smart move on their part. And I don't say the word "smart" when talking about the Avs very much anymore.

I also like this trade because it looks like Ottawa gets the worst of it. Broken down its:

Colorado gives up: Matt Duchene
Colorado acquires: OTT 1st-round pick, OTT 3rd-round pick, C Shane Bowers, G Andrew Hammond (from Ottawa); NSH 2nd-round pick, D Samuel Girard, LW Vladislav Kamenev (from Nashville)

Nashville gives up: NSH 2nd-round pick, D Samuel Girard, LW Vladislav Kamenev
Nashville acquires: Kyle Turris

Ottawa gives up: Kyle Turris, OTT 1st-round pick, OTT 3rd-round pick, C Shane Bowers, G Andrew Hammond

So Ottawa trades the equivalent of two 1st round draft picks (Bowers was picked 28th in 2017) plus a 3rd rounder to go from Turris to Duchene? I think that's an upgrade but a very small one.

Nashville still looks pretty weak on their wings after Forsberg and Arvidsson (why on earth did they let James Neal go again). A deal revolving around JVR for Dante Fabbro would bring me so much joy.
