Who do the Leafs have that naturally plays the right side? Phaneuf, but who else?

I guess that's it for Liles somehow then.

Franson. Kostka and Holzer typically took up the other slot on the right. And Liles moved over to the right when Kostka was hurt.

In 07/08 his ATOI was over 25 minutes in 08/09 it was over 24 minutes.

He will be 29 in September, lets hope he's able to log these kind of minutes again.

Any word on the deal? Is this a 1-way, 2-way ...? Is he just signing back with the Marlies?

I think many of us thought he would be on the Leafs this past season but that never came to fruition. Not a bad depth signing if he is actually on the team this year. He is at least as good if not better than Kostka, and Kostka got quite a bit of playing time last year.

This is a great signing. Hopefully Liles can now be traded for some draft picks.

Ranger and Holzer played a fair bit together with the Marlies after Holzer waa sent down if I remember correctly. And i expect Holzer to be given every opportunity to make the team this year.

Gunnar-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Franson
Ranger-Holzer
Brennan/whoever-under-$800k

Make Liles and Fraser disappear for cap/roster space. Although that coule be very, very difficult.

The Leafs might have to take a small cap hit on Fraser and stick in him with the Marlies, where he belongs. Whatever he's awarded over $925K will count against the cap, but, realistically, it won't be a significant amount.

DarrenDreger: Paul Ranger's deal with the Leafs is for 1 year...around $1 mil.

Wouldn't surprise me if the actual number is $925K, but, that's just a guess on my part.

I am hoping the details on Ranger put him at 925k or below as well in case he ends up not making the club.  This signing may be a tactic in the Franson negotiations or more likely to get Fraser to come in at a lower number during the hearing.

Not likely.  Signing Paul Ranger to an NHL deal is in and of itself a succesful and important step for the team.

Agreed. Ranger has been a legitimate NHL d-man in the past and the Leafs must be hoping he can be that again.
