a draft pick in this year! yay!

Winnik is now responsible for two 2nd rounders in this draft (the other from Pittsburgh)

I haven't followed Laich the last couple years, but beyond being overpaid he's still a half decent third line player, no? His contact is up next year, just wondering if he'll bring back a second or third round pick next deadline?

Solid trade. It'll be #59 or #60 but to heck with it. I'm in.

Carrick is a 21 year old defenseman with 25 points in 46 games in the AHL this season.  He had 42 in 73 games a year ago.

Right handed shot too, which the Leafs lack in their system. Likely a depth guy.

This is a pleasant surprise. I really didn't think Winnik would be moved until next year, and another second this year is great.

What's the haul up to now, 4 seconds and 2 fourths in the last couple weeks?

I'm kind of shocked they were able to get him.  Taking on Laich's deal must have been that important to Washington.

Winnik was solid as a Leaf last season, but his play this year has been very underwhelming. It's a little surprising as you'd think he'd be someone who might have thrived in a Babcock-system. I'd imagine eating Laich's contract had just as much to do with getting the 2nd rounder as Winnik did. Still a really good trade.

Also, Laich fills the gap left by Dion Phaneuf for a Leaf with a semi-famous significant other which was a loss I was keenly feeling.

He had a bad lower body injury earlier in the year. It's been mentioned several times that it's hurt his mobility all season.

It's kind of amazing that they netted a 2nd rounder and decent prospect for adding only $2.25 million in salary.

Solid return for Winnik getting another 2nd rounder and a RH shot prospect d-man. Curious to see if the Leafs flip Laich tomorrow, release him after the season or keep him around until next years deadline? He was a very good player in his prime, but has fallen off a cliff production-wise the past few years. On the plus side get ready for some Julianne Hough sightings around town!  ;)
