Eberle to NYI
« on: June 22, 2017, 12:30:29 PM »

I guess that means they're out of the Duschene sweepstakes.

Strome, apparently. 1 for 1.

God damnit. I wish Edmonton had something valuable that they didn't like and that we needed so we could get in on all this robberies.

They still have cap space and a defenceman in Hamonic that they can dangle. I could see them getting both. Or at least trying.

Makes clearer why the Islanders were willing to give up a 1st to rid themselves of Grabovski's cap space.  Fresh start for Eberle could make the Islanders look like bandits here.

Huge win for the Isles.

Not sure what Edmonton is thinking here. Ryan Strome is a dud.

Isles win this deal hands down.
Edmonton made this deal for financial reasons, not to better their team on the ice.

Bobby McK says it's likely done tomorrow for 4x4.

Eberle carries a rather large Cap hit for a very one dimension sold player.  Oilers are lucky to get even a reclamation project for him.  The Cap space is their reward.

Which they've now officially poorly used:

Kris Russell has signed his deal with the Oilers. Front loaded contract but as @TSNRyanRishaug reported, total is $16 M over 4 yrs

I don't expect Chiarelli to use it very wisely but the Oilers are better keeping Russell and getting rid of Eberle vs the other way around.

After Draisaitl (who for all we know might move to centre once Chia trades RNH for scraps) their top-6 wingers are pretty ugly. I don't think you can keep banking on Patrick Maroon to score close to 30 goals, even if he is attached to McDavid's hip. Eberle's been a consistent 25 goal/60 point winger. That's not easy to replace.
