The Maple Leafs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Philadephia Flyers on Sunday evening at Wachovia Center. Nikolai Kulemin had the only Toronto goal in a scrappy affair that saw Dion Phaneuf tangle with Philadelphia’s Scott Hartnell.
In Marlies news, Brendan Mikkelson’s overtime goal gave Toronto a 3-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack, while Jeff Jackson resigned as Marlies GM with Dave Nonis being named as his replacement.

Saturday News: Leafs Goalies to Alternate; Face Senators Tonight

Leafs coach Ron Wilson said that the team’s goalies, Jean-Sebastian Giguere and Jonas Gustavsson will alternate starts for the rest of the season. Toronto takes on Ottawa at Scotiabank Place tonight with the Senators having goaltending issues of their own. (7pm, CBC, AM 640).

Team Canada’s men’s hockey players had a day off yesterday, but will be back at work today in preparation for Sunday’s much-anticipated tilt against the United States. The winner of the showdown will finish atop the Group A pool in the preliminary round.

Tuesday news: Canada’s gold medal quest begins

Today marks the day that Canadian hockey fans have circled in their calendars since the men’s Olympic team skated off the ice in Torino, Italy with a seventh place finish in 2006. The red-and-white maple leaf-crested squad built by executive director Steve Yzerman takes to the ice for their first tournament game at the 2010 Olympics, facing off against Norway at Hockey Canada place in Vancouver (7:30pm ET).

Saturday news: Burke thanks supporters following son’s death; Leafs shutout in St. Louis

On Friday evening Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke went public for the first time since the passing of his son Brendan last week. A visibly-shaken Burke expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from teammates, media and fans in the wake of the tragedy.
On the ice, the Leafs were shutout 4-0 in St. Louis in their last game before the Olympic break. Ex-Leafs Alex Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo each had a point.
In AHL action, the Toronto Marlies lost 5-1 to Manitoba.
