Reading affiliation starting to pay off for Leafs

READING, Pa. – Four seasons have come and gone for the Reading Royals as ECHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs and Marlies. The on-ice results have been reasonable as Reading has qualified for the playoffs the last three seasons. But more importantly from a developmental point of view, the players assigned to Reading by the Leafs are improving their games while at the “AA” level.

Both Cincinnati and Chicago have a game in hand. Of Reading’s six remaining games , four are against last-in-the-league Trenton. Thus far in 2011-12, the Royals are 5-3-1 against the Titans.

The Royals Review

(March 5)

READING, Pa. – If the Reading Royals are going to qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs this season, they’re going to need an impressive last five weeks of the regular season. The schedule concludes with 15 March games and heading into the season’s final month, the ECHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs and Marlies is in a four-team race for the final two Eastern Conference playoff spots.

The Cincinnati Cyclones, Chicago Express, Florida Everblades and Reading are within a point of each other as the stretch run begins. Barring something unusual, only two of those teams will make it.

The Royals Review

(February 3)

READING, Pa. – Though the names have changed , the scoreboard results of the Reading Royals, the ECHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs and Marlies, have stayed very much the same for most of the season.

During January, hopes were raised in Reading after Toronto welcomed back an influx of newly healthy NHL and AHL players. The Royals reaped some manpower rewards as a result of those moves but have continued to have mediocre results.

Other players on the Reading roster are shifting. too. Co-affiliate Boston is moving players back and forth and Royals’ coach Larry Courville continues to trade and tinker with his lineup in hopes of finding the right combination that can get on a roll and earn a playoff berth.
