It was a close one at the ACC last night. The Leafs managed a 3-2 overtime win against the Stars.
Nazem Kadri, who was playing with a heavy heart over the passing of his grandfather, scored a pair of goals. Trevor Smith scored the winner. And Jonathan Bernier stopped an incredible 48 of 50 shots fired his way. Here’s an amazing save by Bernier!
It’s clear that the Leafs are playing above their heads, which comes almost entirely on the backs of James Reimer and Jonathan Bernier. The duo has saved the Leafs collective bacon more times than not. And nothing points to the rest of December being much different – it’s a tough schedule ahead..
The Leafs next action is in Ottawa Saturday, where they visit the Sens.
John-Michael Liles has got the call to come join the Leafs…
Marlies Lose A Close One…
The Marlies fell 2-1 to the Lake Erie Monsters last night, ending their 3-game winning streak. Troy Bodie scored the lone goal for the Marlies while T.J. Brennan and John-Michael Liles tallied assists in the loss.
The Marlies next game is Saturday when they play host to Hamilton.
Joffrey Lupul isn’t far off from being game ready. He is sitting on the fence on playing Saturday. The groin injury has had him miss 5 games. Tyler Bozak is now on the extended injured list with the oblique strain. As per the National Hockey League’s collective bargaining agreement, Bozak must remain there for a minimum of 10 games or 24 days. Colton Orr underwent a procedure to fix a bursa-sac issue in his elbow and Dave Bolland is still out indefinitely with the cut ankle tendon.
Rielly To World Juniors???
There’s an update in the National Post quoting Dave Nonis as saying there’s still a possibility that Morgan Rielly could be loaned to the Canadian World Juniors. The decision has to be made by December 19th. It’ll all depend on how much ice-time he’s getting with the Leafs at that time.
