Leafs at World Championship – Qualification round ends

In six games played at the World Hockey Championship in Slovakia – including a preliminary round game against Belarus – Team Canada finished with a record of 4 wins and two overtime wins.

Ken Hitchcock’s squad is set to face Russia in a quarter-final matchup on Thursday. Canada will be looking to avenge a 5-2 loss when these two teams played in the quarter-final at last year’s tournament in Germany.

As reported by PostMedia News, Hitchcock has yet to decide whether his starting goalie for Thursday’s game will be the Leafs’ James Reimer, or Jonathan Bernier of the Los Angeles Kings.

Reimer struggled in Canada’s win over the United States, although he did recover to clinch the victory for his team in the shootout. Bernier has posted back-to-back wins over Norway and Sweden to close out the qualification round.

Mikhail Grabovski of Belarus is the only Maple Leafs player at this tournament on a team that did not advance to the quarter-finals.
