Marlies season ends in Chicago

The Toronto Marlies were eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs on Friday night, falling 4-2 to the Chicago Wolves in Game #5 of the Western Conference Final.  Once again, undisciplined penalties were the Marlies' undoing as the Wolves capitalized with three power-play goals, including the eventual game-winner, to erase a 2-0 Marlies lead.  The last goal of the game was an empty-netter by the Wolves with goaltender Justin Pogge on the bench.

The Marlies had a chance to tie the game down 3-2 when they were awarded a five-minute power-play after Chicago's Andre Deveaux was ejected for kneeing forward Chris Harrington.  Toronto could not convert on the five-minute man advantage, with their best chance coming off a shot by Kris Newbury.  Wolves goalie Ondrej Pavelec managed to get a glove on the puck just before it deflected off crossbar.

The Wolves opponents in the Calder Cup final will be the winner of the Wilkes-Barre vs. Portland series, which has now gone to seven games.

Brent Aubin and Andy Wozniewski were the goal scorers for Toronto.

Forward lines: Tlusty-J. Mitchell-Ondrus, Battaglia-Newbury-Harrington, Murphy-Foster-Ling, Leveille-Giliati-Aubin
Defence pairings: Harrison-Sifers, Wozniewski-Oreskovic, Kronwall-Walser
Goaltenders: Pogge (L 59:28, 20 SV, 3 GA), Clemmensen (0:00), empty net (1 GA)
