Battaglia is the overtime hero - again
Bates Battaglia scored his second overtime goal of the playoffs, leading the Toronto Marlies to a 4-3 victory over the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at Ricoh Coliseum. With the win, the Marlies staved off elimination, and still trail the best-of-seven North Division final 3 games to 2 heading back to Syracuse.
"I just had my stick on the ice, pretty much hit it and I just kind of shoveled it," said Battaglia, who finished a nice passing play by linemate David Ling on the winning goal. Battaglia also scored in Game #7 of the first round series against the San Antonio Rampage.
The Marlies have a bit of momentum on their side, rebounding after their defeat on Wednesday. "We've played some pretty good hockey, outside of the last ten minutes of Game 4," assessed Marlies head coach Greg Gilbert. ""But tomorrow's going to be an even tougher game, so we've got to get some rest."
Game #6 of the series is on Saturday night beginning at 7:30pm.
Brent Aubin, John Mitchell and Ling had the Marlies goals in regulation time while Kris Newbury collected three assists. Scott Clemmensen made 26 saves for the win in goal.
Forward lines: Tlusty-J. Mitchell-Ondrus, Battaglia-Newbury-Ling, Foster-Giliati-Aubin, Wellar-Tsimikalis-Harrington
