Leafs thumped by Habs as season ends

The Maple Leafs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, bringing a conclusion to what has been a dismal 2007-08 season.  Mark Bell had the only goal of the game for Toronto.

In making 33 saves in the defeat, Andrew Raycroft played well for most of the game, however the soft goal he surrendered to Habs defenceman Mark Streit was simply typical of his career in a Leafs uniform.

Chris Higgins scored a pair of goals for Montreal and was named the game's first star.

Toronto finishes the year with a record of 36-35-11 for 83 points: 12th place in the Eastern Conference.

Forward lines: Bell-Tucker-Blake, Ponikarovsky-Stajan-Steen, Tlusty-Moore-Williams, Pohl-Newbury-Devereaux
Defence pairings: McCabe-Stralman, Kaberle-Kubina, Kronwall-White
Goaltenders: Raycroft (L 60:00, 33 SV, 3 GA), Toskala (0:00)
Injuries: Sundin (groin), Antropov (knee), Wellwood (hernia), Boyce (shoulder), Colaiacovo (groin)
