On The Loss…

There were numerous factors that played a part in the 6-3 loss to the Devils.  First and foremost, the Leafs defence, as a whole, had a rough game.  Andreas Borgman, Jake Gardiner and Calle Rosen struggled the most.  Do the Leafs now look a little closer at UFA Roman Polak?

The team did fire 50 shots at Cory Schneider.  He was in great form making numerous solid stops.

Speed was a factor.  While this young Leafs squad is known for their speed, the Devils were every bit as speedy.  Gone are the days of the slow, methodical trap team from Jersey.

The Leafs have a mandatory day off tomorrow.  Expect Coach Babcock and staff to go over the game tape with a fine-tooth comb.  Over and over.

Around the ACC…

* It was nice to see fans wearing Patrick Marleau’s #12 at the ACC last night.  I noticed several within a sea of Matthews, Nylander and Marner jerseys.  Hey wait, I’ve got to ask – is it a jersey or sweater?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

* I had the chance to have a nice chat with Michael Augello in the press box last night.  Leafs fans from years gone by would remember him as Mike From Buffalo.  He was a regular caller to Andy Frost’s post-game show.  He’s since become a regular contributer for HockeyBuzz, and  his latest is a gig with The Sporting News.  He’s a good guy – it’s nice to see him still covering the Leafs on a regular basis.

* Anthem Singer Martina Ortiz-Luis, the 16 yr old anthem voice of the Leafs, sounds as good as ever.  It’s her second season in this role.  What a voice!

The Old Guy on D…

This may sound odd, but I think of 36 yr old Ron Hainsey like a comfortable old pair of shoes.  He fits just right.  And he’s always there.  Especially on the penalty kill, where he logs a great deal of minutes.  He’s been a great addition.

No Chance I’ll Get Hired…

I’ll never make the Leafs ice-girls team that clears the ice each tv break.  Apparently you only get hired if you have long, flowing hair.  Or something like that.

Dartguy gets a radio show…

Dart Guy, who first had his 15 minutes of fame in the playoffs last spring, has officially made the big leagues. Dart Guy is now set to have his own show on TSN 1050, entitled “The Dart Guy Show”, airing every Saturday from 3 to 5 pm.  I kid you not.  Good on him!
