For a team that’s considered very fast, the Leafs sat back on their heels while the Devils sped by them Wednesday evening at the ACC. It was a 6-3 loss for Toronto.
Toronto’s breakout seemed largely ineffective throughout the game. On the other hand, New Jersey took full advantage of some sloppy Leafs defensive miscues. The worst was an ugly 3 on 5, yes, three-on-five, where the Devils speed led to two scoring chances – with them capitalizing on a rebound.
James van Riemsdyk, Dominic Moore and Auston Mathews scored for the Leafs. Cory Schneider faced 50 Leafs shots, making numerous solid saves.
The Leafs next action is Saturday evening when the Leafs travel to Montreal.
