No Gas Against Jackets; Leafs to play Washington

It was tough hockey to watch.

The Leafs played their final game of the season tonight against the Blue Jackets and came out on the losing end of the affair by a 3-2 score.

The Leafs were clearly out of gas for much of the game.  They were coming off a 5-3 win over the Penguins last night. And Columbus looked clearly disinterested in the match. It meant a lousy game of hockey to be had for paying fans who were hoping for a tie or win to play against the Ottawa Senators.

So the Leafs face the Washington Capitals in round one of the playoffs.  It’ll be a big challenge for the rookie-laden Leafs.  They have next-to-no experience post-season, and face the Ovechkin-led Caps, who are considered by some as the Stanley Cup favourites.

Notes:

  • The Leafs hope to have goaltender Freddie Andersen back from injury to start the playoffs.  He left last night’s game after taking a hard hit to the head.
  • Nikita Zaitsev is also questionable as he took a hit to the upper-body this evening that had the ear markings of a possible concussion.
