Long-serving Leafs captain Mats Sundin refuted a report in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet which stated that the 37-year-old unrestricted free agent has agreed to terms with the Vancouver Canucks.
“I will make a decision in the end of July or beginning of August,” Sundin told the newspaper. “If I am going to play it’s for the full season and I want to be there from the beginning of August.”
On July 1, Canucks GM Mike Gillis an offer of $20-million for 2 yearas for Sundin to play in Vancouver. Gillis also attempted to use the allure of playing in the host city for the 2010 Olympics, which is a lukewarm incentive for Sundin at best.
“I doubt that I will play for Sweden in the Olympics one more time,” said Sundin. “But you should never say never.”
